Teams in contact with Kendrys Morales, who may still wait to sign
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:44 pm ET) Some teams have been in contact with free-agent first baseman Kendrys Morales in recent weeks, but he may still wait until after the June draft to sign with a team, CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reports.

The Orioles are believed to be one of the teams in contact with Morales, who was yet to find a suitable deal after turning down a qualifying offer at the beginning of last offseason. The Brewers, Mariners and Athletics could also make sense as a destination for the free agent, according to Heyman.

Jacob Turner a little rusty in rehab debut
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:36 pm ET) Marlins starting pitcher Jacob Turner made his first minor-league rehab appearances Wednesday at Class A Jupiter, as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury.

Turner struggled early in the outing, allowing two runs in the firs tinning of work. He settled down from that point, ultimately allowing those two runs on three hits in four innings of work, while striking out three without a walk.

Turner is expected to make at least one more rehab start before the team considers bringing him back from the disabled list.

White Sox option Charlie Leesman to Triple-A
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:33 pm ET) The White Sox optioned Charlie Leesman to Triple-A Charlotte Wednesday.

Leesman was scheduled to make Sunday's start, so the team will have to come up with a new plan for that outing. He was moved off the 25-man roster to make room for Gordon Beckham, who is on his way back from the disabled list and is expected to be activated before Friday's game.

Koji Uehara strikes out three in nonsave situation Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:29 pm ET) Red Sox closer Koji Uehara didn't earn a save Wednesday but did protect a 5-1 lead, striking out three while giving up one hit in a scoreless ninth inning in his team's win over the Yankees.

Uehara was his normal brilliant self, throwing 12 of his 14 pitches for strikes. He owns a 14:1 K:BB ratio while pitching eight scoreless innings.

John Lackey strikes out 11 in gem Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:27 pm ET) Red Sox pitcher John Lackey earned a win Wednesday, giving up just one earned run on seven hits in eight innings while striking out 11 and walking none in his team's 5-1 win over the Yankees.

Lackey (3-2) threw 84 strikes in his 111 pitches, and the only run the Yankees were able to scratch out was on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. He owns a 4.22 ERA and 34:7 K:BB ratio in 32 innings. Lackey's next opponent will be the Rays at home Tuesday.

Todd Redmond stuck with loss vs. Orioles
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:27 pm ET) Blue Jays pitcher Todd Redmond was hung with the loss Wednesday, giving up three earned runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning in his team's 10-8 loss to the Orioles.

Redmond (0-2) came into the game with the bases loaded and no outs in the fifth inning and served up a grand slam after recording a pop out. He was charged with two more runs after giving up three straight hits and a sacrifice fly, which ended his day. Redmond owns a 2.57 ERA and 11:4 K:BB ratio in 14 innings.

Tommy Hunter picks up sixth save Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:24 pm ET) Orioles closer Tommy Hunter recorded his sixth save Wednesday, pitching a scoreless inning despite giving up three hits in his team's 10-8 win over the Blue Jays.

Hunter loaded the bases with one out but was able to get induce a ground ball for a game-ending double play. He owns a 3.86 ERA and 6:1 K:BB ratio in seven innings.

Chris Tillman surrenders seven runs in win vs. Blue Jays
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:21 pm ET) Orioles pitcher Chris Tillman surrendered seven earned runs on nine hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings while striking out seven, but he still earned the win in his team's 10-8 win over the Blue Jays Wednesday.

Tillman (3-1) surrendered two earned runs during a six-run second inning, but he managed to settle down and pitch three more scoreless innings before giving up another home run in the sixth. He owns a 3.38 ERA and 27:9 K:BB ratio in 32 innings. Tillman is on track to square off with the Pirates at home Tuesday.

Dustin McGowan roughed up in no-decision Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:20 pm ET) Blue Jays pitcher Dustin McGowan gave up six earned runs on five hits and one walk in four-plus innings while striking out five Wednesday, but he didn't factor into the decision in his team's 10-8 loss to the Orioles.

McGowan opened the fifth inning with a 6-3 lead but allowed a walk and an infield single before hitting a batter to load the bases. That ended his night, and the next pitcher to the mound would surrender a grand slam to bring all those inherited runners home. McGowan, who gave up two home runs himself in the start, has turned in a 6.88 ERA and 13:7 K:BB ratio in 17 innings. He's next up against the Royals in Kansas City Tuesday.

Hector Santiago fighting through back trouble
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:16 pm ET) Angels starter Hector Santiago's numbers aren't eye-popping, but they look a bit more impressive after the 26-year-old revealed he has been pitching through back pain since his first start.

"I just kept aggravating it and throwing, and doing all the workouts and stuff," Santiago said. "It went on for longer than I wanted it to."

Santiago has been dealing with a back injury since the end of the spring, and Sunday's start against the Tigers was the first time he has taken the mound without a setback or flare-up. He is 0-3 with a 3.68 ERA in 22 innings of work.
