Pedro Strop unavailable Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:09 pm ET) Cubs reliever Pedro Strop was not available for Thursday's game, according to ESPN.

Strop threw 31 innings during Wednesday's contest, and will not be used Thursday. Manager Rick Renteria reiterated Thursday that the team is still utilizing a closer by committee approach in the late innings.

George Springer off to poor start with Astros
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(12:06 pm ET) The greatly anticipated debut of stud Astros outfield prospect George Springer has come and gone. He has struggled at the plate ever since.

Springer is hitless in his last 14 at-bats after a decent start. He has just six hits, including five singles, in 33 at-bats since his promotion. He has also struck out 11 times and owns an unimpressive .182/.250/.212 stat line.

Manager: Adam Eaton could be back Friday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:58 am ET) Robin Ventura said White Sox center fielder Adam Eaton could return to the lineup as early as Friday for the weekend series opener against Tampa Bay.

Eaton has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

A.J. Pollock sitting again Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:57 am ET) Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock was not in the lineup Thursday against the Cubs, according to the Arizona Republic.

Pollock has missed every game of the Chicago series due to a stiff neck. Tony Campana will get the nod in center. Pollock is hitting .235 in 68 at-bats.

Mark Trumbo hits disabled list
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:45 am ET) Diamondbacks outfielder Mark Trumbo has been placed on the disabled list Thursday.

Trumbo has a stress fracture in his foot, which will require some time to heal. The team called up Roger Kieschnick to replace Trumbo. Prior to the injury, Trumbo hit .210 in 80 at-bats. It's unclear how long Trumbo will be out.

Trevor Plouffe emerging as RBI threat for Twins
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:37 am ET) Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe is making good on his preseason claim that he would focus on driving in more runs this season.

Plouffe has 13 RBI in 20 games, which puts him on a 105-RBI pace for the year. He has remained steady throughout and has embarked on a hot streak in which he has six hits in 17 at-bats with five runs scored over the last four games.

The 27-year-old Plouffe has also grown more patient at the plate. He is on pace to exceed 100 walks - quite remarkable considering his career high is 37.

Blake Parker headed to Triple-A
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:29 am ET) Cubs pitcher Blake Parker was sent to Triple-A Thursday.

Parker posted a 16.20 ERA over 1 2/3 innings with the club. He was replaced by Neil Ramirez and Zac Rosscup, both of who were called up Thursday.

Roger Kieschnick in Arizona, slated to start Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:25 am ET) Diamondbacks outfielder Roger Kieschnick was in the starting lineup Thursday, according to azcentral.com.

Kieschnick was called up, and penciled into the starting lineup immediately. He's likely to replace Mark Trumbo, who is dealing with a foot injury.

Justin Ruggiano dealing with grade two hamstring strain
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:22 am ET) Cubs outfielder Justin Ruggiano is dealing with a grade two hamstring strain, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Ruggiano hit the disabled list Thursday, and it looks like he'll be facing some significant time off. In a best best case scenario, Ruggiano is likely to miss three-to-four weeks. He's hitting .229 in 35 at-bats.

Cubs call up two Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:13 am ET) The Cubs have called up pitchers Zac Rosscup and Neil Ramirez Thursday.

In order to make room for both players, the team placed outfielder Justin Ruggiano on the disabled list, and sent Blake Parker to Triple-A. Rosscup has already pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings with the club this year. Ramirez hasn't been up with the team yet in 2014.
