Dodgers SP Mike Bolsinger impressive again in loss on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:36 pm ET) Dodgers pitcher Mike Bolsinger was solid again on Friday, as the Cardinals were victorious 3-0. Bolsinger went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out three, as he was saddled with his first loss of the season.

Bolsinger (3-1) gave up a run in the first and one in the third, but was outdueled by Cardinals starter John Lackey in this one.

The 27-year old still holds an impressive 1.15 ERA as he heads into his next start, scheduled for Tuesday in Colorado.

Cardinals SP John Lackey stymies Dodgers offense on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:32 pm ET) Cardinals starter John Lackey was excellent in the team's 3-0 victory over the Dodgers on Friday. Lackey, whose last start ended early due to rain, tossed seven shutout innings on Friday. He allowed five hits and one walk while striking out nine, as he improved to 3-3 on the year.

Lackey did not allow the Dodgers to have more than one baserunner on at a time, and no Dodger made it beyond first base. His ERA dropped to 2.83 with the impressive performance.

He'll look to keep the good times rolling in his next start, scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Brewers.

He went 1 for 4 on the day. His last two hits have been home runs.

Marlins C Jeff Mathis could be activated from DL on Monday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:26 pm ET) Catcher Jeff Mathis could be nearing a return to the Marlins. Mathis, who has been on the disabled list since the middle of April with a fractured right hand, has played four rehab games with Triple-A New Orleans and is hitless in 10 at-bats.

Mathis may need just three more rehab games, and could be activated as early as Monday, according to MLB.com.

Upon his return, Mathis will likely be the backup option to J.T. Realmuto.

"He's a big presence in our clubhouse," Miami manager Dan Jennings said.

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(11:22 pm ET) Rays reliever Brandon Gomes suffered a loss in Friday's game to Baltimore, dropping to 1-2 on the season.

Gomes allowed a single to start the ninth inning and left the game after retiring two batters. The runner came around to score the game-winning run.

Darren O'Day earns win in relief for Orioles
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(11:14 pm ET) Orioles reliever Darren O'Day pitched a scoreless ninth inning and picked up a win over Tampa Bay on Friday.

Orioles' Miguel Gonzalez goes eight innings in no-decision
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(11:12 pm ET) Orioles starter Miguel Gonzalez went a season-high eight innings in Friday's game against Tampa Bay, but he had to settle for a no-decision.

Gonzalez allowed one run on three hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out six.

Gonzalez has pitched seven innings or longer in five starts this year, one shy of his total for all of 2014. His next start is Wednesday at Houston.

Rays' Nathan Karns allows one hit in no-decision
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(11:07 pm ET) Rays starter Nathan Karns was pulled after six shutout innings in Friday's game. Karns allowed just one hit, but he settled for a no-decision after the Tampa bullpen gave up the lead.

Karns walked two and struck out seven.

"As long as he’s throwing strikes he’s going to give us opportunities to win, which he’s done just about every start he’s been out there," manager Kevin Cash said. "We really like what he’s done for us and want him to maintain that."

Karns has given up two or fewer runs in his last six starts and eight out of his last nine. His next start will be Wednesday at the Angels.
