by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5:32 pm ET) The Dodgers recalled pitcher Stephen Fife from Triple-A Albuquerque Tuesday and placed him on the 60-day disabled list. He underwent Tommy John surgery in August.

The move opens up a 40-man roster spot for pitcher Daniel Coulombe, who was brought up from Double-A Chattanooga in a corresponding move. Coulombe has posted a 2.89 ERA and 92:27 K:BB ratio in 65 1/3 innings between high class A Rancho Cucamonga and Chattanooga.

Astros shut down George Springer
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5:16 pm ET) Astros outfielder George Springer has been shut down for the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday.

Rusney Castillo to make first MLB start Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5:13 pm ET) Red Sox outfielder Rusney Castillo will make the first major-league start of his career Wednesday in center field, the Boston Globe reports.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Mark Teixeira sidelined by wrist discomfort
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5:08 pm ET) Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is out of the lineup Tuesday due to discomfort in his surgically-repaired wrist, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The wrist may be contributing to the first baseman's continued struggles at the plate, as he has hit just .178/.288/.289 with one home run in 45 at-bats in September. Manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday that it's up to Teixeira to tell the team when he's ready to resume action, MLB.com reports.

Masahiro Tanaka scheduled to make return Sunday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5:01 pm ET) Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka is tentatively scheduled to start Sunday against the Blue Jays, manager Joe Girardi told reporters Tuesday.

Tanaka, who is working his way back from a partially torn UCL, saw game action for the first time since July 8 Monday. Assuming he avoids any issues or setbacks in the intervening time, Tanaka is set to have a 70-to 75-pitch limit for the start.

Joey Votto to take batting practice Tuesday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:59 pm ET) Reds first baseman Joey Votto will take batting practice Tuesday for the first time since suffering a strained left quad in early July, manager Bryan Price told reporters.

Votto swung at soft toss in the batting cage Monday, and appears to be making steady progress in his recovery. He still hopes to return to action before the end of the season.

Anibal Sanchez preps for one more 'pen session
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:53 pm ET) Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez tossed a bullpen session without issue Tuesday, but is not yet ready to return from a pectoral injury.

Despite an earlier report that Sanchez could return after a successful bullpen session, he told reporters Tuesday he will need at least two more side sessions. Sanchez is set to throw one more longer bullpen session before facing hitters in a simulated game, according to MLive.com.

Whether Sanchez will return as a starter or reliever has yet to be determined, though Sanchez is currently preparing to return to the rotation.
