by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:11 pm ET) First baseman Travis Ishikawa , recently of the Pirates, has elected to become a free agent after clearing waivers Wednesday, according to MLB.com. Ishikawa was designated for assignment by the Pirates recently, after hitting .206/.263/.382 in 15 appearances.

Jason Vargas posts quality start in no-decision vs. Indians
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:10 pm ET) Royals pitcher Jason Vargas didn't factor into the decision Wednesday after giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks in six innings while striking out two in his team's 5-3 loss to the Indians.

Vargas was handed a two-run lead going into the bottom of the second inning but gave it right back after surrendering a two-run triple. His unearned run came in the sixth when Michael Brantley stole second base and the Royals committed two errors trying to get him out. Vargas owns a sparkling 1.54 ERA and 18:8 K:BB ratio through 35 innings. He'll face the Blue Jays at home Tuesday.

Justin Masterson strikes out six in no-decision Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:10 pm ET) Indians pitcher Justin Masterson gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings while striking out two Wednesday, but he wasn't a factor in the decision in his team's 5-3 win over the Royals.

Masterson gave up back-to-back home runs in the second inning, but he was able to hold the Royals to one unearned run the rest of the way. He owns a 4.50 ERA and 30:13 K:BB ratio in 28 innings. Masterson is slated to take on the Angels in Anaheim Monday.

Matt Lindstrom secures third save Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:05 pm ET) White Sox closer Matt Lindstrom gave up a hit and a walk but pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his team's 6-4 win over the Tigers to secure his third save of the season.

Lindstrom was able to record the final out to strand the tying run on second base, and all three of his outs came via fly out. He owns a 2.70 ERA but just a 3:4 K:BB ratio in 10 innings.

Evan Reed suffers loss vs. White Sox Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:02 pm ET) Tigers reliever Evan Reed took the loss Wednesday, giving up three earned runs on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning in his team's 6-4 loss to the White Sox.

Reed (0-1) loaded the bases in the seventh inning before being removed for another reliever, who served up a grand slam to the second batter he faced. Reed hadn't surrendered a run before Wednesday's loss. He owns a 3.52 ERA and 5:2 K:BB ratio in 7 2/3 innings.

Andre Rienzo gives up four runs in win vs. Tigers
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:02 pm ET) White Sox pitcher Andre Rienzo picked up a win Wednesday after giving up four earned runs on five hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings while striking out three in his team's 6-4 win over the Tigers.

Rienzo (1-0) was tagged for four runs in the fourth inning but was otherwise solid. He was on the hook for the loss before the White Sox delivered a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the seventh inning. Rienzo owns a 4.91 ERA and 4:3 K:BB ratio in 7 1/3 innings over his two appearances. His next test will come Monday against the Rays at home.

Drew Smyly gives up two runs in no-decision Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:02 pm ET) Tigers pitcher Drew Smyly surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and one walk in six innings while striking out seven Wednesday, but he didn't factor into the decision in his team's 6-4 loss to the White Sox.

Smyly left the game with a 4-2 lead, but a seventh-inning grand slam by the White Sox took away his potential win. It was Smyly's first outing of more than three innings after beginning the season in the bullpen. He owns a 3.60 ERA and 15:4 K:BB ratio in 15 innings. Smyly is set to face the White Sox again Tuesday, this time in Chicago.

Skip Schumaker will head to Triple-A after extended spring work
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9:53 pm ET) The Reds want infielder Skip Schumaker to take his rehabilitation to Triple-A once he gets through some extended spring training games, MLB.com reports Wednesday. Though there is not set timeline for his return to competitive action, Schumaker will get as many at-bats as he needs as he continues to recover from a dislocated shoulder in spring training.

"We're going to try and be as accommodating as we can to get him as many at-bats, seeing as many pitches as possible on the front end of this thing," manager Bryan Price told MLB.com. "Once he goes to a full-season league, we can't control the environment."

Nick Franklin likely heading back to Triple-A
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:52 pm ET) Mariners infielder Nick Franklin will likely be optioned to Triple-A Tacoma before Friday's game against the Rangers.

Franklin tweeted "Las Vegas here I come!" after Wednesday's win over the Astros, indicating that he's been informed that he'll join Tacoma in Las Vegas. He went 1 for 3 Wednesday and is 2 for 16 with two walks in 16 at-bats with the big-league club.
