Jake Arrieta wins one Tuesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:34 pm ET) Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta picked up a win Tuesday against the Brewers.

Arrieta allowed one run on five hits over six innings. He struck out four and walked two during the outing. Arrieta gave up his only run in the third inning. With one out, Arrieta gave up three straight singles, including a run-scoring hit. He settled in at that point, not giving up another hit until the sixth inning. While he put two men on during the inning, Arrieta was able to get out of it without surrendering any additional runs.

With the win, Arrieta improved to 8-5. He'll take on the Blue Jays in his next start.

Pat Neshek earns fifth save Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:25 pm ET) Cardinals pitcher Pat Neshek picked up his fifth save Tuesday, tossing a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off his team's 6-4 win over the Pirates.

Neshek continues to pile up scoreless appearances despite being touched up for four runs in a game in late August. He got the call Tuesday with closer Trevor Rosenthal having pitched in each of the last two games. Neshek owns a 1.37 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 61:7 K:BB ratio in 59 innings.

Adam Wainwright serves up three home runs in win Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:22 pm ET) Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright picked up a win Tuesday, giving up four earned runs on seven hits and one walk in six-plus innings while striking out three in his team's 6-4 victory over the Pirates.

Wainwright (16-9) was victimized by the long ball in this game, giving up solo home runs in the second and third innings before his night ended on a two-run blast in the seventh. He had surrendered three home runs in his last 15 starts combined, with all three coming in August. Wainwright owns a 2.69 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 153:46 K:BB ratio in 194 innings. He'll take on the Brewers Sunday.

Jeff Locke struggles in short outing vs. Cardinals Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:22 pm ET) Pirates pitcher Jeff Locke took a loss Tuesday, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits and five walks in three-plus innings while striking out three in his team's 6-4 defeat against the Cardinals.

Locke (6-4) has encountered an issue with walks lately, issuing 19 over his last five starts, but Tuesday's loss was his first since the end of July, a stretch over which he went 4-0. Locke owns a 3.75 ERA and 69:32 K:BB ratio in 108 innings. He's scheduled to face the Phillies Monday.

Martin Prado dealing with hamstring injury
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:19 pm ET) Yankees infielder Martin Prado is dealing with a hamstring injury, according to MLB.com.

Prado will undergo tests to determine the severity of the issue. Prado was pulled from the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. He finished 2 for 3, with one run scored and one RBI. Prado hit his 10th home run in the third inning.

Kyle Lobstein strikes out 10 Tuesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:13 pm ET) Tigers pitcher Kyle Lobstein struck out 10 hitters Tuesday against the Indians.

Lobstein allowed two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 10 and walked three during the outing. Both runs came in the first inning. With two outs, Lobstein gave up a single to Michael Brantley, and a two-run homer to Carlos Santana. That would be all Lobstein would give up during the outing. Lobstein put two men on the following inning, but managed to work out of it. He was strong over the rest of the start. Lobstein wound up throwing 101 pitches.

Lobstein was stuck with a no-decision for his efforts. He'll take on the Giants in his next start.

Carlos Carrasco turns in strong start despite being hittable
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:04 pm ET) Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco had a strong start Tuesday against the Tigers.

Carrasco allowed one run on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 10 and walked one during the outing. Carrasco gave up his only run of the game in the second inning. After the first three batters singled to load the bases, Carrasco walked in a run. He managed to pitch out of trouble, striking out two and getting a ground out to escape the inning.

Despite giving up just one run, Carrasco often found himself working in and out of jams. Carrasco did give up 10 hits, but was able to pitch around base-runners all game. He put at least two runners in on the third, fourth and fifth innings, but managed to pitch out of it.

Carrasco picked up the no-decision for his efforts. He’ll take on the White Sox in his next start.

Joe Kelly tosses quality start Tuesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10:50 pm ET) Red Sox pitcher Joe Kelly tossed a quality start Tuesday against the Yankees.

Kelly allowed three runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out six and issued four walks during the game. Kelly performed well early on, but found himself in trouble late in the start. A solo home run put a dent in the outing in the third inning, but Kelly didn’t really find himself in trouble until the fifth.

Kelly allowed three straight singles to open the frame, though was slightly bailed out when his defense threw out Martin Prado on the basepaths. With men on second and third, Kelly then walked the bases loaded. He walked the next batter as well, bringing in the first run of the inning. Derek Jeter would also single in a run later in the inning.

With the win, Kelly moved to 3-3. He’ll take on the Blue Jays in his next start.

Shane Greene has a tough start Tuesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10:50 pm ET) Yankees pitcher Shane Greene couldn’t make it three innings Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Greene allowed six runs on six hits over 2 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked three during the appearance. Greene found himself in trouble almost immediately. After getting one out to open the game, Greene allowed a single, a walk and a run-scoring double to the next three batters. He then gave up a sac fly, plating the second run of the inning. Greene was able to toss a scoreless second, but got into trouble in the third.

After getting a fly out to open the frame, Greene allowed a single, walk and three-run homer to the next three hitters he faced. After striking out Will Middlebrooks, Greene gave up a solo shot against Xander Bogaerts. A walk to David Ross ended Greene’s night.

With the loss, Greene fell to 4-2. He’ll take on the Royals in his next start.
