Andrew Cashner Ks six in winning effort

(8:46 pm ET) Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner struck out six and turned in an effective outing as he picked up his third win of the season Sunday afternoon against the Nationals.

Cashner (3-2), who made his sixth start of the season, served up a two-run home run to Ryan Zimmerman in the fourth. The right-hander was charged with three runs and seven hits over 6 2/3 innings of work. He walked one and threw 97 pitches. It was his fourth straight start with 90-plus pitches.

Cashner has allowed just five runs over his last three starts (21 1/3 innings). He is scheduled to make his next start Saturday at Arizona. He went 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in four appearances (two starts) against the Diamondbacks last season.

Rafael Betancourt Ks two in non-save situation

(8:32 pm ET) Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt struck out two as he worked a scoreless ninth inning in a non-save situation Sunday against the Giants.

Betancourt has struck out two or more in four of his last five appearances. His ERA dropped to 1.56 after Sunday's 5-0 victory.

Juan Nicasio bounces back vs. Giants

(8:28 pm ET) Rockies starting pitcher Juan Nicasio, who gave up five runs his last time out, turned in a bounce-back performance during Sunday's series finale against the Giants.

Nicasio, who made his ninth start of the season, allowed just three hits as he struck out five and walked one over six scoreless innings of work. His ERA improved to 4.47 after picking up his fourth win of the season.

Nicasio (4-1) has allowed two runs and five hits over his last 11 innings of work at home. He'll face the Giants again Saturday night at AT&T Park. Nicasio is 2-1 with a 5.19 in five starts away from home.

Barry Zito drops second straight

(8:21 pm ET) Giants starter Barry Zito endured another rough outing as he suffered his third loss of the season Sunday afternoon against the Rockies.

Zito (3-3), who made his ninth start of the season, surrendered a run-scoring single to Carlos Gonzalez in the first and two more in the fifth. The left-hander was charged with five runs and 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings of work. He struck out four and walked two in a 5-0 defeat.

Zito has allowed 13 runs -- 10 earned -- over his last 11 1/3 innings of work. He is scheduled to make his next start at home against the Rockies. Zito is 3-0 with a stellar 0.55 ERA in five starts at AT&T Park.

Craig Kimbrel shuts the door on Dodgers

(8:12 pm ET) Braves closer Craig Kimbrel was called upon for the third consecutive day against the Dodgers Sunday afternoon.

Kimbrel worked his way around a two-out walk as he struck out three to secure his 14th save of the season in a 5-2 win. He has not allowed a run in his last four appearances. Kimbrel has a 2.60 ERA and has converted 14 of 17 save chances.

Mike Minor Ks nine vs. Dodgers

(8:06 pm ET) Braves pitcher Mike Minor struck out a season-high nine as he enjoyed a solid performance but did not factor into the decision Sunday afternoon against the Dodgers.

Minor, who made his ninth start of the season, gave up a run-scoring single to Adrian Gonzalez in the opening frame and a sacrifice fly in the third for his only damage of the day. The left-hander was charged with two runs and three hits over six innings of work in a 5-2 win.

Minor has allowed four runs over his last 19 2/3 innings of work. He has struck out 20 and walked seven over that span. He is scheduled to make his next start Saturday against the Mets at Citi Field. He gave up three runs and three hits over seven innings of work in his previous meeting against the Mets on May 3.

Scott Van Slyke leaves with lower leg injury

(7:58 pm ET) Dodgers outfielder Scott Van Slyke was forced out of Sunday's contest against the Braves after fouling two pitches off his lower left leg in the seventh.

X-rays on his leg came back negative, according to MLB.com. Van Slyke finished 0 for 3 in a 5-2 defeat. He has gone 4 for 14 with three home runs and four RBI in his last five games played before getting hurt.

Brandon League can't hang to late lead

(7:53 pm ET) Dodgers closer Brandon League blew his second save of the season Sunday afternoon against the Braves.

League came in for Kenley Jansen with two runners on in the eighth inning. The Braves took a 5-2 lead as they scored four runs in the eighth. League was charged with two runs and two hits in one inning of work. He walked one and struck out one in his 19-pitch appearance.

League has allowed 10 runs and 14 hits over his last 9 1/3 innings of work. He is 0-2 and converted 4 of 6 save chances over that span.

Matt Magill settles for no-decision

(7:45 pm ET) Dodgers right-hander Matt Magill, who made a spot start for Josh Beckett, enjoyed a solid performance as he settled for a no-decision Sunday afternoon against the Braves.

Magill, who made his fourth start of the season, allowed a run-scoring single to Jordan Schafer in the fifth for his only damage of the day. He was charged with one unearned run and four hits over five innings of work. He struck out eight and walked three in a 5-2 defeat.

Magill is scheduled to make his next start Saturday at home against the Cardinals. He has a 3.86 ERA through his first two starts at home.

Ernesto Frieri walks three vs. White Sox

(7:39 pm ET) Angels closer Ernesto Frieri allowed a sacrifice fly in the ninth but managed to secure a four-out save Sunday afternoon against the White Sox.

Frieri endured a shaky outing as he walked three and did not surrender a hit, allowing one run over 1 1/3 innings of work. His ERA went grew to 2.25 after picking up his ninth save of the season. Frieri has allowed one run in each of his last two appearances.
