Doug Fister takes loss vs. Dodgers Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:53 am ET) Nationals pitcher Doug Fister took a loss Tuesday, allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits and two walks in five-plus innings while striking out two in his team's 4-1 defeat against the Dodgers.

Fister (12-6) has failed to post a quality start in three straight outings, taking a loss in each of those starts. After giving up two home runs in each of his last two games, the starter surrendered a two-run blast in the sixth inning Tuesday and put two more men on base before leaving the game. Fister owns a 2.66 ERA and 82:18 K:BB ratio in 135 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Braves Monday.

James Paxton allows two runs in win vs. A's
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:52 am ET) Mariners pitcher James Paxton earned a win Tuesday, giving up two earned runs on four hits and three walks in 7 2/3 innings while striking out two in his team's 6-5 victory over the A's.

Paxton (5-1) breezed through seven scoreless innings before putting the first two guys of the eighth inning on base. Though he recorded a double play on a ground ball, the starter walked another batter and was removed, with both runners he left on base eventually scoring. Paxton owns a 1.91 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 35:14 K:BB ratio in 47 innings. He's scheduled to face the Rangers Sunday.

Sonny Gray surrenders six runs in loss vs. Mariners
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:52 am ET) Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray took a loss Tuesday, allowing six earned runs on seven hits and two walks in five innings while striking out two in his team's 6-5 defeat against the Mariners.

Gray (13-8) surrendered a two-run single in the third inning, a two-run double in the fourth and a two-run home run in the fifth to result in his fifth loss in his last seven starts. He owns a 3.25 ERA and 151:64 K:BB ratio in 183 innings. Gray is scheduled to face the White Sox Monday.

Kevin Quackenbush records win Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:50 am ET) Padres pitcher Kevin Quackenbush picked up a win Tuesday, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning in his team's 2-1, walkoff win over the Diamondbacks.

Quackenbush (3-3) surrendered a one-out single, and when the runner advanced to second base on the second out, he intentionally walked Miguel Montero to face A.J. Pollock, who flied out to center field. Quackenbush owns a 2.58 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 47:17 K:BB ratio in 45 1/3 innings.

Brad Ziegler serves up walkoff home run Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:48 am ET) Diamondbacks pitcher Brad Ziegler took a loss Tuesday, giving up a walkoff home run in his team's 2-1 defeat against the Padres.

Ziegler (5-3) retired the first batter he faced Tuesday, but Cory Spangenberg connected on his first major-league home run to send the Diamondbacks home with a loss. Ziegler owns a 3.55 ERA and 53:24 K:BB ratio in 66 innings.

Odrisamer Despaigne allows one run in no-decision Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:46 am ET) Padres pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne wasn't a factor in Tuesday's decision after giving up one earned run on four hits in seven innings and striking out four in his team's 2-1 win over the Diamondbacks.

Despaigne was excellent for much of the outing, but three of his four singles were concentrated in the fourth inning, providing the Diamondbacks with a run and preventing Despaigne from earning a win. He owns a 3.06 ERA and 54:25 K:BB ratio in 79 1/3 innings. Despaigne is scheduled to face the Rockies in Colorado Sunday.

Wade Miley tosses seven one-run innings vs. Padres
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:46 am ET) Diamondbacks pitcher Wade Miley didn't factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one earned run on seven hits and two walks in seven innings while striking out five in his team's 2-1 loss to the Padres.

Miley was sharp Tuesday, needing just 85 pitches to complete seven innings and surrendering only one extra-base hit. However, his offense couldn't provide him the support needed for a win. Miley owns a 4.18 ERA and 168:64 K:BB ratio in 183 innings. He's scheduled to face the Dodgers Sunday.

Zach Britton saves No. 32 Tuesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:42 am ET) Orioles pitcher Zach Britton picked up his 32nd save Tuesday against the Reds.

Britton entered with a one-run lead, and managed to make things interesting. After picking up a ground out to start the inning, Britton put men on first and third after giving up a double and a single. With the tying run 90 feet away, Britton managed to pick up a game-ending double-play. The play was reviewed, and the call was upheld, ending the game.

Bud Norris picks up the win Tuesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:38 am ET) Orioles pitcher Bud Norris picked up a win Tuesday against the Reds.

Norris allowed four hits over six scoreless innings. He struck out seven and walked one during the outing. Despite the strong start, Norris never flirted with the no-hitter. Billy Hamilton singled to open the game, ending that possibility. Norris was able to pitch around the single, not giving up any runs. A fielding error put two men on base in the third inning, but that was the closest the Reds would come to scratching a run across against Norris.

With the win, Norris improved to 12-8. He'll take on the Rays in his next start.

Jake Petricka earns 11th save
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:27 am ET) White Sox pitcher Jake Petricka picked up his 11th save Tuesday against the Twins.

Petricka entered the game with a three-run lead in the bottom of the 10th inning. He tossed a perfect inning, picking up one strikeout. Petricka picked up the other two outs via groundballs. Petricka threw 10 pitches during the inning, seven of which were strikes.
