Michael Pineda will get some game action tuesday

(7:16 pm ET) Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda is scheduled to throw three innings in a game on Tuesday, according to the Journal News on Monday. Manager Joe Girardi would not reveal whether the right-hander would be pitching in a simulated game or a rehab game.

Pineda is expected to get stretched out in the minors before rejoining the team. Girardi is not concerned about the amount of reps he'll need before he is reinstated.

"As long as he feels good and is throwing the ball well, there'd be no reason not to bring him back," Girardi said. "It's the same as spring training. You build them up, when they're ready to go, you send them."

Blue Jays trade for Danny Valencia Monday

(7:13 pm ET) The Blue Jays have acquired infielder Danny Valencia from the Royals for minor-leaguers Erik Kratz and Liam Hendriks on Monday, the Royals announced. Valencia appeared in just 36 games for Kansas City and owned a .282/.328/.382 slash line with two homers and 11 RBI in 110 at-bats this season.

Jacob deGrom on a 185 innings limit

(7:10 pm ET) Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom will be shut down around 185 innings, according to ESPN.

The club hasn't decided how to handle deGrom moving forward. He may just make all his starts on regular rest until he reaches his limit, or the team will get creative and find ways to skip him during the year. deGrom has been a standout thus far, posting a 2.79 ERA over 87 innings. Including his work in the minors, deGrom has roughly 60 innings left before he reaches his limit. 


Brandon Belt passes concussion test

(7:06 pm ET) Giants first baseman Brandon Belt passed his concussion test Monday, according to the Mercury News.

Belt said he feels good, and is hoping to begin baseball activities soon. He's been sidelined since July 19 due to the injury. Belt is hitting .242/.304/.455 over 165 at-bats. There's still no timetable for his return.


Blue Jays trade away Liam Hendriks, Erik Kratz to Royals

(7:01 pm ET) The Blue Jays have traded pitcher Liam Hendriks and catcher Erik Kratz to the Royals, according to Sportsnet.ca.

Hendricks went 8-1 with a 2.33 ERA in 18 appearances (16 starts) with Triple-A Buffalo. he was shelled for six runs over 1 2/3 innings in his last major-league start on June 21. Kratz hit .299 with three homers and 17 RBI in 87 at-bats. Kratz is expected to join the big-league team, per SB Nation.

Rangers consider Adrian Beltre 'untouchable' before deadline

(6:54 pm ET) The Rangers have received phone calls on Adrian Beltre prior to the trade deadline, but have declared the third baseman as "untouchable," FOX Sports reports Monday. Beltre owns a .324/.369/.519 slash line with 15 homers and 55 RBI in 349 at-bats.

Still no timetable for Ryan Zimmerman

(6:53 pm ET) The Nationals still haven't announced a timetable for third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, according to The Washington Post

Manager Matt Williams said prior to Monday's game that there were no updates on Zimmerman. The third baseman injured his hamstring July 22, and has been out since then due to the injury. Zimmerman met with a physical therapist during the weekend, but the team has yet to announce the results of that visit.

Zimmerman was hitting .282/.345/.456 over 195 at-bats prior to the injury.


Chris Owings still hasn't taken live batting practice

(6:40 pm ET) Diamondbacks shortstop Chris Owings still hasn't taken live batting practice, according to MLB.com.

Owings has been sidelined since June 25 with a shoulder injury. He's been slow to recover. There's currently no timetable for his return. Owings was hitting .277/.313/.458 over 238 at-bats.


Masahiro Tanaka feeling 'better' nearing three-week mark of PRP injection

(6:40 pm ET) Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka is nearing the three-week mark from a platelet-rich plasma injection and is starting to feel "better and better," manager Joe Girardi told MLB.com on Monday.

Tanaka stayed in New York for treatment while the team traveled to Texas to start a road trip. Tanaka went on the DL on July 9 with right elbow inflammation and a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. He's hoping to avoid Tommy John surgery. He posted a 2.51 ERA over 129 1/3 innings prior to the injury.
