Mariano Rivera reached 25 saves Wednesday, closing out a 6-4 win in the first game of a doubleheader against the Dodgers. Rivera tossed a perfect ninth inning, striking out two.
Rivera had a perfect outing for just the second time in his last nine appearances. Coming into Wednesday, Rivera had a 3.18 ERA and .467 opponents' batting average in his previous eight outings (5 2/3 innings).
Chris Capuano comes off the DL for start

Hyun-Jin Ryu falls to Yankees

Hyun-Jin Ryu took the loss Wednesday against the Yankees and fell to 6-3.
Ryu did muster a quality start, as he allowed three runs on five hits over six innings. Ryu struck out four, walked two, and served up a solo home run to Ichiro Suzuki. His ERA remains excellent at 2.96.
Alex Castellanos shipped out

Alex Castellanos to Triple-A Albuquerque after the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, to make room for Chris Capuano's return from the disabled list.
Castellanos appeared in four games, picking up two hits in nine at-bats.
Hiroki Kuroda snaps winless streak vs. former team

Hiroki Kuroda held his former team to two runs in 6 2/3 innings, leading New York to a 6-4 win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers. Kuroda (7-5), who pitched for Los Angeles from 2008-11, allowed eight hits and one walk, while striking out two.
Kuroda held Los Angeles scoreless for six innings before the Dodgers finally broke through in the seventh inning. The veteran right-hander won for the first time in six starts. He was 0-3 with a 4.40 ERA and .261 opponents' batting average in his previous five starts.
Kuroda is slated to return to action Tuesday against the Rangers. Kuroda is 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in three career starts against Texas.
Derek Jeter takes on-field batting practice

Derek Jeter (ankle) took on-field batting practice Wednesday for the first time since being cleared to increase his rehab. Jeter
took 21 swings and hit the ball to all fields.
Jeter also increased his movement by taking grounders and fielding backhanded on the grass behind shortstop.
Mitch Moreland homers to cap rehab assignment

Mitch Moreland played in his
third and final game with Double-A Frisco Wednesday, ESPN reports. Moreland went 3 for 5 with a home run, double and two RBI.
Out for two weeks with a strained right hamstring, Moreland can come off the DL Friday and is expected to do so. He went 6 for 9 during his rehab assignment with three doubles, a HR and three RBI.

Allie has made his conversion from pitching to hitting a success thus far. In 66 games at Low Class A West Virginia, Allie hit .324/.414/.607 with 17 home runs and six stolen bases. At 22, he was a touch old for the league, so the promotion will be a good test of if his talent can play.
