Felix Doubront decent in defeat
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(11:18 pm ET) Red Sox starter Felix Doubront didn't pitch poorly on Tuesday in Chicago. Unfortunately, he still suffered the loss to fall to 3-2 on the year.

Jose Quintana was no-hitting the Red Sox until deep in the game and Boston lost 3-1. Doubront allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in the defeat. He struck out three and allowed a two-run homer to Jeff Keppinger in the fifth inning. Doubront's ERA is at 5.61.

The 25-year-old has given up just two runs in each of his last two starts with 10 Ks over that span of 11 innings. Still, he's walking too many and hasn't earned a win since moving to 3-0 back on April 27. His next scheduled outing comes Sunday against Cleveland.

Kevin Gausman to make MLB debut Thursday
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(11:14 pm ET) The Orioles will call up No. 2 prospect Kevin Gausman to make his major league debut Thursday in Toronto, FOX Sports reports and MLB.com confirmed Tuesday.

Gausman was not expected to be ready for the majors yet, despite speculation that he could be a viable option. Perhaps his last start for Double-A Bowie made the difference. Gausman earned a win as he allowed one run on four hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts over six innings.

For the season at Double-A, his first as a professional after being drafted last year, he's gone 2-4 with a 3.11 ERA with 49 Ks over 46 1/3 innings. That said, he's allowed two or fewer runs to score in five straight outings.

Mike Leake wins second straight
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:12 pm ET) This time last week, Mike Leake's spot in the Reds' rotation was not assured. He has responded to the pressure with a pair of scoreless outings, including Tuesday against the Mets.

Leake pitched into the seventh inning for the second time in a row, holding the Mets to just three hits. Two of them went for extra-bases, however he managed to limit the damage as both came with two outs in innings.

Leake struck out four batters and walked two in seven innings of work, while throwing 61 of 99 pitches for strikes. He lowered his ERA to 3.25 while earning his fourth win of the season, 4-0.

Leake is scheduled to make his next start Monday against the Indians.

Danny Worth to work out at extended spring training
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11:09 pm ET) Tigers infield prospect Danny Worth suffered a setback while recovering from a bruised right heel, according to MLB.com.

Worth is shut down from most activity until he's pain free. He is expected to head to Florida Wednesday to work out at extended spring training. Worth remains optimistic about rejoining his Triple-A squad at some point next week.

Wandy Rodriguez comes out on top
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:04 pm ET) Pirates starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez fell behind early Tuesday against the Cubs, but managed to hold on long enough for a quality start and the win.

Rodriguez allowed three runs in the second inning, on four hits, but otherwise held the Cubs silent all game long.  He ultimately allowed just the three runs on six hits in six innings of work, while striking out five batters and walking none.

He needed just 87 pitches to finish his six innings of work. He exited the game down 3-0, but the Pirates rallied back in the bottom half of the sixth to put him in line for the win. Pittsburgh would hold on for a 5-4 victory, Rodriguez's fifth of the season. He lowered his ERA to 3.40.

Rodriguez is expected to make his next start Sunday, against the Brewers. He had his worst start of the season against the Brewers in April, but bounce back to limit them to one run in seven innings May 15.

Octavio Dotel begins throwing
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11:03 pm ET) Tigers reliever Octavio Dotel, on the 15-day disabled list with an inflamed right elbow, resumed throwing and will require a rehab assignment, according to MLB.com.

Dotel was shut down roughly a week ago after experiencing more discomfort while throwing. Dotel will need to make more progress before starting a rehab assignment. The Tigers have not issued a concrete timetable for Dotel's return.

Matt Garza holds Pirates scoreless in debut
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:56 pm ET) Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza pitched more than well enough to win his first start of the season Tuesday, however the bullpen fell apart in a 5-4 loss.

Garza held the Pirates scoreless over five innings in his first appearance since recovering from a lat injury and a stress reaction in his elbow last season. He allowed just one hit, a single, while walking three batters. He threw 48 of his 82 pitches for strikes, while striking out five batters.

Garza did not allow his first hit until one out in the fifth inning, and he was taken out after finish the fifth inning with 82 pitches, as he was expected to be limited to just 90 pitches in the game.

Unfortunately, the 3-0 lead Garza left the game with would not hold up, thanks to the struggles of the bullpen, which allowed five runs in just the sixth inning.

Garza is set to make his next start in Cincinnati on Sunday.

Colby Rasmus goes deep in defeat
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(10:27 pm ET) Blue Jays outfielder Colby Rasmus smacked his seventh home run Tuesday during a loss to the Rays. In fact, he scored two of the team's three runs in the loss.

Rasmus, batting seventh, went deep in the fifth inning off starter Alex Cobb. He finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored and is batting .234 on the year.

The 26-year-old Rasmus has really struggled in May and has dropped his batting almost 20 full points over his last 10 games. He does have seven homers and 19 RBI, however.

Desmond Jennings homers in win
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(10:26 pm ET) Rays leadoff hitter Desmond Jennings went yard for the fifth time this season Tuesday in Toronto. Jennings took Ramon Ortiz deep in the third inning for a solo shot.

Jennings went 1 for 4 in the game and is batting .241. He's hit in seven straight games and has six RBI over that span with three runs scored.

Fernando Rodney pulls ninth save
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(10:25 pm ET) Rays closer Fernando Rodney was asked to record five outs Tuesday in Toronto. Rodney entered in the eighth inning with two runners on base and one out.

On his first pitch in the eighth, Rodney induced a double play to end the inning. He remained on for the ninth in the 4-2 game and allowed a run to score on a wild pitch before recording the save on a strikeout. He went 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and one run allowed on a hit and a walk.

Rodney, who now has nine saves on the season, has recorded two consecutive scoreless appearances since allowing three runs on four hits and a hit over 2/3 of an inning against Boston. His ERA is at 5.00.
