Jorge De La Rosa allows two runs in win vs. Royals
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:27 pm ET) Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa earned a win Wednesday, giving up two earned runs on five hits and three walks in eight innings and striking out three in his team's 5-2 victory over the Royals.

De La Rosa (13-8) surrenderd a solo home run in the second inning and another run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth. The big shot of the game came in the bottom of the sixth, when the Rockies offense delivered a grand slam to give the starter all the support he needed. De La Rosa owns a 4.21 ERA and 109:52 K:BB ratio in 149 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Giants Tuesday.

Error sinks Danny Duffy against Rockies
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:26 pm ET) Royals pitcher Danny Duffy was hurt by an error Wednesday against the Rockies.

Duffy allowed five runs, one earned, on five hits over seven innings of work. He struck out six and walked one. Duffy was pitching well until the sixth inning. Up until that point, he had allowed just one run on three hits. Things looked promising to start the sixth, as Duffy quickly recorded the first two outs. He would have been out of the inning with no damage, but third baseman Nolan Arenado’s throwing error put a man on base. Duffy then loaded the bases on a single and walk. With the bases juiced, Duffy gave up a grand slam to Matt McBride.

With the loss, Duffy dropped to 8-11. He’ll take on the Twins in his next start.

Matt McBride slugs grand slam Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:26 pm ET) Making his first start of the season Wednesday, Rockies first baseman Matt McBride went 2 for 3 with a grand slam in his team's 5-2 win over the Royals.

McBride made his season debut one day earlier, failing to get a hit in his only at-bat as a pinch hitter. McBride hit seven home runs in 187 at-bats with Triple-A Colorado Springs before joining the Rockies this week.

Juan Uribe participates in batting practice Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:25 pm ET) Dodgers third baseman Juan Uribe increased his baseball activity Wednesday, participating in batting practice, MLB.com reports.

Manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday that Uribe was making nice progress in his recovery from a hamstring strain. The third baseman has been sidelined less than a week with the injury.

David Ortiz removed Wednesday due to general soreness
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:25 pm ET) Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was removed from Wednesday's game due to general soreness, according to the Providence Journal.

Ortiz had a productive outing, singling three times and hitting his 30th home run. He was replaced by Alex Hassan in the bottom of the ninth. The issue doesn't sound all that serious, and there's a chance Ortiz will return to action soon.

Andrew Susac blasts first career home run Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:21 pm ET) Giants catcher Andrew Susac went 1 for 5 with a two-run home run in his team's 8-3 victory over the Cubs Wednesday.

Susac's third-inning home run was the first of his career, coming in his 11th career game. He has 10 home runs in 213 at-bats with Triple-A Fresno as well. Susac has hit .241/.290/.379 in 29 at-bats with the major-league club.

Hunter Pence swats 17th home run Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:21 pm ET) Giants outfielder Hunter Pence went 2 for 5 with a solo home run in his team's 8-3 win over the Cubs Wednesday.

Pence hadn't managed to put together a multi-hit game in two weeks before getting it done Wednesday while also delivering his fourth home run of the month. He has hit .284/.336/.469 with 17 home runs, 54 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 514 at-bats.

Jake Peavy strikes out eight in win vs. Cubs
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:21 pm ET) Giants pitcher Jake Peavy earned a win Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits in seven innings and striking out eight in his team's 8-3 victory over the Cubs.

Peavy (3-12) has now won back-to-back games after taking 12 straight losses, including three in his first three starts with the Giants. The offense staked him to a four-run lead after one inning, and though he gave two of those runs back on a second-inning home run, he did a great job throughout the start despite the high hit total. Peavy owns a 4.48 ERA and 123:54 K:BB ratio in 156 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Rockies Monday.

Edwin Jackson chased in third inning of loss vs. Giants
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:20 pm ET) Cubs pitcher Edwin Jackson couldn't make it out of the third inning in Wednesday's loss, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings while striking out two in his team's 8-3 defeat against the Giants.

Jackson (6-14) gave up four runs in the top of the first inning and, after working a clean second, ran into trouble again in the third, allowing three doubles and a two-run home run in the inning before being yanked. His ERA has ballooned up to 6.09 to go with a 123:61 K:BB ratio in 139 innings. Jackson is scheduled to face the Reds Tuesday.

Ricky Nolasco saddled with the loss
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:17 pm ET) Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco had a tough start Wednesday against the Indians.

Nolasco allowed four runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked one during the outing. Nolasco found himself in trouble early, as Zach Walters hit a solo shot against him in the second inning. Cleveland struck again in the fourth. A run scored on two straight doubles to open the inning. Mike Aviles was able to drive in the second run of the inning with a single. Nolasco would pitch into the seventh, but was pulled after giving up a single. That run would come around to score, and was charged to Nolasco.

With the loss, Nolasco dropped to 5-9. He’ll take on the Royals in his next start.
