Nationals' Doug Fister, Sammy Solis throw off flat surface Wednesday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(6:33 pm ET) Nationals pitcher Doug Fister and Sammy Solis were both able to throw off a flat surface on Wednesday, manager Matt Williams said per MASN Sports.

Fister, who is dealing with a strained flexor, threw for the first time since suffering the injury. Fister is 2-2 with a 4.31 ERA in 39 2/3 innings of work. Solis, who is dealing with shoulder inflammation, has not pitched since May 10 with the injury.

Indians' Michael Bourn picking up offense at bottom of lineup
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(6:33 pm ET) After spending much of April as the Indians' leadoff hitter before being shifted to the bottom third of the lineup, center fielder Michael Bourn has hit .333/.404/.444 in his last 16 games.

"He has been doing a lot better," manager Terry Francona said, per the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He's an important part of what we're doing. We didn't want to run away from him, but we also have to try to balance what we're doing and who we have on our roster. He's doing a lot better."

Bourn said he hasn't made a drastic change after being moved from the leadoff role.

"I'm just going to continue to play and continue to try to swing the bat," Bourn said. "It's not one thing. It's usually not something big. It's usually something little. When you've been playing for a while, it's something little and you've got to get adjusted to it. I just continue to play baseball. I try not to get too high and I try not to get too low. It's not easy to do, but I try my best to do that, because this is May. We've still got June, July, August and September left."

Bourn has hit .235/.314/.301 with 11 RBI, 16 runs scored and three stolen bases in 136 at-bats.

Red Sox LF Hanley Ramirez not blaming struggles on injured shoulder
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(6:25 pm ET) Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez is in a slump after flying out of the gates to start the season. Ramirez, who is a little banged up after running into the left field wall earlier in the month, is not blaming his shoulder for the struggles, according to WEEI.com.

"I mean, I keep hitting line drive outs to people. I can't control that. And I've been doing that for, I mean, the whole month. Just right at people," Ramirez said.

Twins pitchers kept Ramirez on his toes, working the inside part of the plate throughout their series.

"I mean, I've got a strike zone. Most of the pitches they've thrown me inside are balls. I'm not supposed to pull that," Ramirez said. "I hit it back up the middle, that's my approach. Back up the middle. If you start opening your front shoulder and keep chasing, I'm not changing my approach. So it is what it is. I'm not getting any mistakes right now. They're just pounding the black of the plate."

In order to make room for Peguero on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox transferred pitcher Anthony Varvaro to the 60-day disabled list.

Rangers' Delino DeShields sees time at second on Wednesday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5:40 pm ET) Rangers utility man Delino DeShields has been rumored to move to the infield with Josh Hamilton coming back from the disbaled list. DeShields saw time at second base on Wednesday, something manager Jeff Banister was happy to see, according to The Dallas Morning News.

"It's funny how the ball finds you," Banister said. "That was good. That's what we wanted, to see him make some plays."

DeShields played second while in the minors, but hasn't played the position since Sept. 2 of 2014.

"It took a minute to get adjusted," DeShields said. "I didn't feel too bad."

Padres' Bud Black: Middlebrooks 'potentially' to see more SS action
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(5:37 pm ET) Padres third baseman Will Middlebrooks might see more action at shortstop in the future, per 1090 Sports Radio.

Padres manager Bud Black said Middlebrooks could "potentially" see more action at shortstop depending on the matchups he will face.

Coming into Tuesday's game against the Angels, Middlebrooks had made just one start at shortstop while making a team-high 34 at third base.
