Cardinals recall Marco Gonzales, two others on Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5:10 pm ET) The Cardinals have officially recalled left-hander Marco Gonzales from Triple-A Memphis. Gonzales will start Tuesday's game against the Nationals, making his season debut for the Cards.

In 2014, the rookie pitcher went 4-2 with a 4.15 ERA in 10 appearances (five starts). He's dealt with injuries this season, and posted a 4.42 ERA in 17 starts across three levels of the Cardinals' minor league system in 2015.

Joining Gonzales from Memphis are right-hander Mitch Harris and catcher Cody Stanley

Hinch: Astros RP Tony Sipp dealing with back, oblique issues
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:10 pm ET) A.J. Hinch has revealed that back and oblique ailments have been plaguing Astros reliever Tony Sipp, per MLB.com.

Sipp hasn't pitched since last Wednesday.

The left-hander has performed well this season, and particularly lately. He has not allowed an earned run in his last 17 appearances.

Cubs DFA relievers Rafael Soriano and James Russell
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5:07 pm ET) Cubs relievers Rafael Soriano and James Russell have been designated for assignment

Soriano made six appearances for the Cubs after signing a minor-league deal in June. He posted a 6.35 ERA, and was placed on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation on Aug. 5.

In his first season back with the Cubs, Russell struggled in 2015. In 49 relief appearances, he posted a 5.29 ERA over 34 innings of work.

Cubs recall Quintin Berry, Trevor Cahill and Tsuyoshi Wada
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5:00 pm ET) The Cubs have recalled outfielder Quintin Berry , right-hander Trevor Cahill and left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

The Cubs signed Berry to a minor-league deal last week after he was released by the Red Sox. He hit .225 with four home runs and 38 RBI between the Red Sox and Cubs Triple-A affiliates.

Likewise, the Cubs inked Cahill to a minor-league contract on Aug. 19 after his release from the Dodgers. Cahill, a former second-round draft pick, is with his third organization this season, though he's only made 15 big-league appearances in 2015.

Wada made seven starts with the Cubs earlier this season, going 1-1 with a 3.73 ERA. He suffered a shoulder injury which forced him to the disabled list. He was sent to the minor leagues after being activated from the DL.

Cubs INF Javier Baez returns to the big leagues, starting Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(4:50 pm ET) Cubs top prospect Javier Baez has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa, and he is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds. Baez will be making his season debut, and will bat seventh while playing second base.

Baez got his first taste of the big leagues in 2014, when he hit nine home runs in 52 games--but he hit just .169.

Royals' Alex Rios, Kelvin Herrera out with the chicken pox
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(4:44 pm ET) The illness that has inflicted Royals right fielder Alex Rios over the past few days has been identified. Rios has suffering from a bout of the chicken pox, which he picked up during the team's recent series in Tampa Bay.

Rios--along with 2015 All-Star reliever Kelvin Herrera, who was also diagnosed with the virus--could miss up to two weeks, according to the Kansas City Star.

Neither player has been placed on the disabled list at this point, and with the rosters expanded on Tuesday, they may stay on the active roster.

Astros recall RP Joe Thatcher on Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(4:34 pm ET) The Astros have added reliever Joe Thatcher to the active roster on Tuesday. Thatcher was designated for assignment by the Astros at the end of July, and elected free agency rather than head to the minors.

But, a week later he inked a minior-league deal with the Astros, and had been pitching with Triple-A Fresno. In nine games with Fresno, he posted a 1.04 ERA.

To clear room on the 40-man roster, pitcher Jake Buchanan was designated for assignment.

Marlins OF Christian Yelich back in the lineup Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(4:28 pm ET) Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich has returned to the starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the Braves. Yelich missed three straight starts due to a bruised knee.

He was used as a pinch-hitter and went 1 for 2 on Monday, so it appears the rest did Yelich good. He's in left field and batting second on Tuesday.

Pirates make flurry of roster moves on Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(4:21 pm ET) Following the expansion of the active rosters, the Pirates made a handful of moves on Tuesday.

Right-handed reliever Rob Scahill (forearm) was activated from the disabled list. Additionally, the Pirates recalled Jaff Decker , Bobby LaFromboise , Elias Diaz , Travis Snider and Radhames Liz from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Mariners add four players to active roster on Tuesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(3:47 pm ET) The Mariners made a handful of roster moves on Tuesday. The team announced that they have recalled outfielder Stefen Romero , infielder Shawn O'Malley and right-handers Jose Ramirez and Tony Zych from Triple-A Tacoma.

Zych is the only member of this quartet to not have tasted the Major Leagues previously.
