Pirates SP A.J. Burnett allows five runs in Thursday's start
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(1:22 am ET) Pirates pitcher A.J. Burnett gave up five runs (four earned) over 5 2/3 innings to earn his fifth victory of the season during the 11-5 win over the Padres on Thursday.

Burnett (5-1) struck out six and walked two batters during the outing. His ERA rose from 1.37 to 1.81.

The Pirates gave Burnett a 7-0 lead before Burnett allowed two runs to score in the fourth inning on hits by Justin Upton and Will Middlebrooks. Burnett permitted more runs in the fifth inning when two hits and two errors led to two runs.

By failing to toss seven innings Thursday, it broke Burnett's streak of four-consecutive starts throwing seven innings. He allowed four earned runs during those outings. His next expected is scheduled for Tuesday at San Francisco.

Angels' Matt Joyce homers in second straight game Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:21 am ET) Angels left fielder Matt Joyce went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBI in his team's 12-2 win over the Tigers on Thursday.

After being bogged down offensively for much of the season, Joyce has now homered in consecutive games and looks to be getting on track at the plate. He has hit just .187/.262/.313 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 134 at-bats, but it's improvement on his .360 OPS at the end of April.

Padres SP Ian Kennedy struggles in Thursday's loss
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(1:19 am ET) Padres pitcher Ian Kennedy ran into trouble during the first inning of Thursday's 11-5 loss to the Pirates and it never got better for Kennedy.

Kennedy (2-5) allowed seven runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings of work during the loss. He struck out five batters and walked two. The long ball was Kennedy's undoing. Kennedy gave up a three-run home run to Jung Ho Kang in the first inning. He also surrendered a solo home run Gregory Polanco in the second and a two-run home run to Starling Marte in the third.

Kennedy has allowed five or more runs in three of his last four starts. His next expected start is scheduled for Tuesday against the Mets.

Angels' Albert Pujols homers, reaches three times Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:19 am ET) Angels designated hitter Albert Pujols went 1 for 2 with two walks, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in his team's 12-2 win over the Tigers on Thursday.

Pujols gave his team an immediate lead, cranking a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to put the Angels up for good. The first baseman has hit .238/.294/.436 with nine home runs and 19 RBI in 172 at-bats.

Angels' C.J. Wilson strikes out seven, walks five in win Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:15 am ET) Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson earned a win on Thursday, giving up just one earned run on two hits and five walks in six innings while striking out seven in his team's 12-2 victory over the Tigers.

Wilson (3-3) was the epitome of effective wildness on Thursday, though he did hit a batter with the bases loaded in the third to bring home his only run allowed on the day. He had given up four earned runs in each of his previous two outings before bouncing back with his six quality start of the season on Thursday.

Wilson owns a 3.18 ERA and 49:21 K:BB ratio in 65 innings. He's on tap to face the Rays on Tuesday.

Tigers' Buck Farmer rocked for seven runs in loss vs. Angels
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:15 am ET) Tigers pitcher Buck Farmer had a season debut to forget on Thursday, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits and one walk in five-plus innings while striking out one in his team's 12-2 defeat against the Angels.

Farmer (0-1) fell behind early, serving up a two-run homer in the first inning and following it up with a solo homer in the second. He then worked a pair of scoreless innings before a fourth run scored on a fifth-inning sacrifice fly. Farmer was pulled with the bases loaded and no outs in the sixth, and all three runs would eventually score.

Farmer went 5-1 with a 2.98 ERA and 50:19 K:BB ratio in 51 1/3 innings over nine starts with Toledo. If he gets another start in the majors, it'll likely come Wednesday against the A's.

Indians' Cody Allen earns 10th save Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:14 am ET) Indians closer Cody Allen picked up his 10th save on Thursday, striking out two in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to slam the door on his team's 5-3 win over the Mariners.

Allen has had his share of rocky appearances this season, but he was able to throw a perfect inning on Thursday and convert his seventh straight save opportunity. He owns a 5.85 ERA and 30:13 K:BB ratio in 20 innings.

Giants 2B Joe Panik collects two RBI in Thursday's win
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(1:13 am ET) With the Giants clinging to a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, Giants second baseman Joe Panik hit a double to drive in two runs to give the Giants a 3-0 lead. They would win the game 7-0.

The double off pitcher Brandon Cunniff was Panik's lone hit in four at-bats during the game. He also scored a run and is now hitting .296 on the season.

Prior to Thursday's game, Panik was hitting .350 with one home run and seven RBI in his last 10 games.

Mariners' Mike Zunino smacks seventh homer Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:12 am ET) Mariners catcher Mike Zunino went 2 for 4 with a solo home run in his team's 5-3 loss to the Indians on Thursday.

Zunino was able to tie the game with his third-inning blast, but the Mariners would quickly fall behind again in the top of the fourth and remain in the hole for the rest of the game. The catcher has collected two homers in his last three games.

Zunino has hit .191/.246/.397 with seven home runs and 15 RBI in 131 at-bats.

Mariners' Dustin Ackley smacks fourth homer Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(1:10 am ET) Mariners left fielder Dustin Ackley went 1 for 4 with a two-run home run in his team's 5-3 loss to the Indians on Thursday.

Ackley connected on a sixth-inning home run to cut his team's deficit to two runs, but it was as close as the Mariners would come to a comeback. It was Ackley's first homer since April 13.

Ackley, who is just 2 for 18 since May 16, has hit .182/.220/.327 with four home runs and nine RBI in 110 at-bats.
