Grant Green beginning rehab assignment, with role unclear
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(2:17 pm ET) Angels infielder Grant Green is set to begin his minor-league rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake Friday, but he may not have a role waiting for him in the majors when he gets back from a back injury. According to MLB.com Friday, there may not be room for Green to play in the majors, given the acquisition of Gordon Beckham recently.

Green was not playing everyday before his injury, but it is not clear if there will be room for him on the roster before September expansion.

Zack Wheeler hopes to remain with Mets through rebuild
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(2:16 pm ET) Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler knows his name has been brought up in trade rumors with the Mets eyeing a blockbuster deal this offseason, but he told the New York Daily News Friday he would prefer to stay put.

"I know it's the business, it's part of the game," Wheeler said. "I know that all these young pitchers can be used as trade bait, but I've been part of the rebuilding here. I'd like to see what happens."

Wheeler has been solid in his second major-league season with the Mets, posting a 3.48 ERA with 148 strikeouts and 65 walks in 152 2/3 innings of work.

Manny Machado will need more than minimum time
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12:59 pm ET) Orioles third baseman Manny Machado has yet to begin baseball activities as he recovers from a sprained right knee, and manager Buck Showalter told reporters he will need more than the minimum time to return from the disabled list.

Machado is eligible to return Aug. 27, but he appears to be behind schedule at this point. The hope was that he would begin baseball activities by Sunday, but it appears unlikely. According to MASNSports.com, Showalter is expected to give an update with more details on Machado's timetable Saturday.

Paco Rodriguez expected back after roster expansion
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(12:00 pm ET) Dodgers reliever Paco Rodriguez, on the disabled list with a strained teres major muscle, has been limited to less than max effort throwing so far as he continues to recover. According to the Orange County Register, he is not expected to return to the majors before Sept. 1 roster expansion.

Chris Perez does not expect to be 100 percent
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:51 am ET) Though he expects to be in the majors when rosters expand Sept. 1, Dodgers reliever Chris Perez admitted to the Orange County Register Friday his ankle is still not 100-percent healthy.

"It's serviceable," Perez said. "I feel good. I'm still trying to build up the strength in it."

Perez has a 5.03 ERA in the majors this season, and is trying to work his way back from bone spurs in his ankle. He does not expect to undergo surgery to remove them, so he will have to manage the pain. He is currently on a rehab assignment at Class A Rancho Cucamonga, where he will make one more appearance next Friday.
