Anthony Rendon justifying faith of manager with hot start
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:42 am ET) Matt Williams certainly can't regret using Anthony Rendon as a full-time starter this season. Rendon has justified that decision - at least so far.

Rendon has hit safely in 13 of 15 games for the Nationals and owns an encouraging stat line of .339/.381/.593. He is the surprising team leader with 12 RBI and is tied for the top with five doubles. His .974 OPS is the best among all starters not named Ryan Zimmerman.

He has also shown a decent eye at the plate and an ability to make consistent contact with 10 strikeouts in 59 at-bats.

Bryce Harper expected back in lineup Thursday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:25 am ET) The quad muscle that prevented Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper from playing Wednesday should not keep him out Thursday against St. Louis, according to the Washington Post.

Harper has been dealing with tightness since Friday, but remained in the lineup. "He's been running a lot," Matt Williams said. "He's been doing a lot of things. Give him a day to calm it down a little bit."

Harper certainly hasn't been negatively affected at the plate. He owns an eight-game hitting streak during which he has 14 hits in 29 at-bats with five RBI. His power numbers have been slow to come around, however. He has just one home run in 50 at-bats this season.

Raul Valdes coming back up
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:25 am ET) Astros reliever Raul Valdes is on his way back to the majors Thursday, according to MLB.com.

Valdes will replace Kevin Chapman on the roster. He was sent down following Wednesday's game. Valdes has a 4.94 career ERA in 136 2/3 innings in the majors.

Jose Reyes return to Blue Jays moved back to Saturday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:12 am ET) The return of Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes from a hamstring injury has been pushed back from Friday to Saturday. His team is in chilly Cleveland this weekend and is trying to avoid him playing three games there.

Reyes has not found his timing at the plate in a minor league stint, during which he has yet to hit safely in six at-bats.

Casey Janssen temporarily shutdown with sore back
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:08 am ET) Blue Jays reliever Casey Janssen has been temporarily shutdown due to a sore lower back, according to MLB.com.

He's expected to take a few days off before he begins throwing again. Janssen tossed a scoreless inning in his rehab debut Tuesday, but apparently had some issues following the appearance.

Colby Rasmus returns to lineup on Thursday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:58 am ET) Blue Jays outfielder Colby Rasmus has recovered enough from a hamstring ailment to land a spot in the starting lineup for the Thursday game at Minnesota. He will serve as the designated hitter.

Rasmus, who hasn't played since Sunday, had been on a tear with eight hits, including three home runs, in his previous 19 at-bats. He is set to bat fifth against the Twins.

Adam Lind still sidelined Thursday with back problem
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:54 am ET) As expected, Blue Jays first baseman Adam Lind has been ruled out for the Thursday game in Minnesota with a back issue.

Lind was just heating up when the ailment cropped up. He had seven hits in 17 at-bats with three walks in six games before leaving the game Tuesday with the injury. The Blue Jays could place him on the disabled list if the back doesn't improve soon, according to MLB.com.

Corey Hart set to explore outfield on Thursday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:42 am ET) Injury plagued Corey Hart will play his first game in the outfield this season on Thursday, which is an encouraging development for the Mariners.

Hart has been forced to deal with knee and forearm issues over the past months. He is also struggling a bit at the plate with five hits in his last 31 at-bats, though he showed signs of breaking out with a two-hit game Wednesday in Texas.

Mike Zunino resting Thursday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:37 am ET) Mariners catcher Mike Zunino will not play a fifth game in five days or a day game Thursday after a Wednesday night game. He has been benched for the Thursday clash in Texas.

Zunino is on a weird streak in which he has followed hitless games with two-hit games. He has eight hits in his last seven games - two each in four of them. He has also not walked in 47 at-bats as his batting average and on-base percentage both sit at .277.

Scuffling Cody Asche not in Thursday lineup
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:21 am ET) Phillies rookie third baseman Cody Asche is sitting again Thursday against a left-hander as he continues to struggle to start the season.

Asche is not in the lineup against Braves southpaw Alex Wood. He is hitless in 11 at-bats against lefties this season, but that is not the extent of his problems. Asche owns a stat line of .184/.279/.316 after a brilliant spring and has not had a hit in 15 at-bats since April 9.
