2B Nick Noonan up, OF Justin Maxwell down for Giants

(6:50 pm ET) The Giants have promoted second baseman Nick Noonan  from Triple-A Sacramento and designated for assignment veteran outfielder Justin Maxwell to create a space on the roster.

Noonan owns a .261/.310/.338 slash line in the minors this season. A current 1-for-19 skid prompted the demotion of Maxwell.


Giants recall C Hector Sanchez and two others on Tuesday

(6:48 pm ET) The Giants recalled a trio of players from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. Catcher Hector Sanchez , right-hander Cody Hall and infielder Nick Noonan have were all called to the big club as the rosters expanded.

All three are expected to be in uniform and available for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.


Giants CF Angel Pagan activated from DL on Tuesday

(6:44 pm ET) The Giants got healthier on Tuesday, as center fielder Angel Pagan was activated from the disabled list. Pagan has been out since Aug. 11 with a knee injury that has bothered him for the better part of the season.

Pagan is batting .258 with 14 doubles in 102 games for the Giants this season.


Dodgers trio out Tuesday against lefty Bumgarner

(6:43 pm ET) A matchup against premier Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner has Dodgers lefty hitters Chase Utley, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford on the bench Tuesday night.

Utley is batting .187 (13-for-70) against lefties this season.


Giants' Tim Hudson returns from DL on Tuesday

(6:41 pm ET) The Giants have activated right-hander Tim Hudson from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday. Hudson had been out since the end of July with a right shoulder injury.

Hudson made one rehab start with Class A San Jose, allowing a hit and striking out two over 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

He returns to a 6-8 record with a 4.80 ERA in 17 starts for the Giants this season.


Nationals may skip Stephen Strasburg's next start

(6:40 pm ET) Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg was able to throw Tuesday, but the team may skip his next start, reports MASNSports.com. The team will see how Strasburg responds Wednesday before determining his next outing.

Diamondbacks INF Phil Gosselin notches four RBI in win Tuesday

(6:37 pm ET) Diamondbacks infielder Phil Gosselin had a career-day at the plate in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies. Gosselin, who started at second base, went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBI in the 6-4 win.

The four RBI are a season-high for Gosselin. In fact, Gosselin had a total of five RBI in his career coming into the game. 


Nationals' Denard Span undergoes hip surgery

(6:36 pm ET) Nationals outfielder Denard Span underwent hip surgery Tuesday, reports MASNSports.com. Span will miss the rest of the season as a result of the surgery.

Rockies' Yohan Flande allows two runs in five innings on Tuesday

(6:32 pm ET) Rockies starter Yohan Flande had a decent outing against the Diamondbacks in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader. Flande allowed two runs on five hits in five innings of work. He walked three and struck out five, but came away with a no-decision.

Flande surrendered a towering solo home run to Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the top of the second inning, putting the Rockies in an early 1-0 hole. But the Rockies tied it up in the bottom half, only for Flande to give the lead back an inning later. 

Flande left the game trailing 2-1, but the Rockies tied the game up. The D-Backs rallied one last time and held on for the 6-4 final. 

The 29-year-old left-hander has made seven starts for the Rockies this year, and is 2-0 with a 4.07 ERA in those outings.


Nationals RP Aaron Barrett likely needs Tommy John surgery

(6:29 pm ET) Nationals manager Matt Williams said pitcher Aaron Barrett will see Dr. James Andrews and will likely need Tommy John surgery, reports MASNSports.com. Barrett will need surgery for a sprained right elbow.
