Yankees targeting Wednesday return for SP CC Sabathia
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:27 pm ET) Yankees veteran starter CC Sabathia is slated to return to the rotation Wednesday against visiting Baltimore, MLB.com has reported.

Sabathia threw about 60 pitches in a simulated game Friday.

The veteran left-hander has been dealing with knee inflammation that landed him on the disabled list. It was thought he might miss the rest of the season.

Sabathia must perform far better than he has most of the year to help the Yankees in their playoff push. He is 4-9 with a 5.27 ERA that is nearly identical to the career-worst he posted in 2014.

Twins OF Byron Buxton not in Friday lineup against Houston
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(5:07 pm ET) Struggling Byron Buxton is the odd man out of the Twins lineup Friday in Houston after the activation of Aaron Hicks off the disabled list.

Buxton has just one hit in his last 23 at-bats and has fanned 11 times during that stretch. His average has fallen to .189.

It remans to be seen if his absence from the Minnesota lineup is permanent as the team seeks to remain in the playoff race.

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:31 pm ET) Just three weeks after completing a stint on the disabled list due to a knee injury, Mets veteran outfielder Michael Cuddyer is sidelined with wrist tendinitis, per the New York Daily News.
