Marlins not ready to discuss innings limit for Jose Fernandez
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:21 am ET) The Marlins have not yet discussed putting an innings limit on starting pitcher Jose Fernandez, who was shut down after throwing 172 2/3 innings as a rookie in 2013.

However, manager Mike Redmond said the Marlins will continue to monitor his workload.

"We showed that last year how we kind of handled him," Redmond said of Fernandez, per The Miami Herald. "[An innings limit] will be a conversation to have later in the year, end of the year. We'll see how it goes. But we've talked about possibly giving him extra days when we can throughout the year to save him and make sure he's fresh at the end of the year as well."

Dayan Viciedo remains on roll with first four-hit game
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:19 am ET) White Sox right fielder Dayan Viciedo did not score or drive in a run Tuesday against Detroit, but he still had one heck of a night.

Viciedo slugged three singles and a double for the first four-hit game of his career. He also walked to boost his stat line on the year to .361/.412/.525. He has 10 hits in his last 16 at-bats.

Tuffy Gosewisch's first hit is a home run
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:14 am ET) Diamondbacks backup catcher Tuffy Gosewisch finally connected for his first hit of the season Tuesday against the Cubs.

Gosewisch's only hit happened to be his first home run of the season. Though, it didn't make much of an impact in a 9-2 loss. Gosewisch connected for a solo home run off Jason Hammel in the sixth inning Tuesday.

Jason Castro slugs fourth homer in defeat of Mariners
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:13 am ET) Catcher Jason Castro brought some spark Tuesday night to an Astros lineup filled with players hanging around the Mendoza Line.

Castro helped Houston to its second straight win in Seattle with a two-run homer in the first inning and added a single and run scored in the eighth. He now has four home runs and nine RBI on the year, but has fanned 17 times in just 61 at-bats.

David Murphy rebounding in style from awful 2013
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:07 am ET) The hope of the Indians that right fielder David Murphy would rebound from an uncharacteristically terrible season in 2013 with Texas is turning into reality. The usually consistent Murphy has been the second-best hitter behind Michael Brantley in a struggling lineup.

Murphy owns a six-game hitting streak and a stat line of .288/.348/.492. He is batting .333 in his last 45 at-bats and is already one-third of the way to his 45 RBI of a year ago.

Andrew McCutchen gets back to MVP-type production
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11:06 am ET) Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen homered for the second straight game during a 4-1 loss Tuesday against the Reds. After not homering in his first 15 games, McCutchen has connected for three home runs in his last six games.

McCutchen has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games. He is batting .364 (16 for 44) in that stretch, raising his season average from .194 to .288.

McCutchen also has a .442 on-base percentage, .682 slugging percentage, 1.124 OPS, five doubles, nine RBI, seven runs, seven walks and one stolen base in his last 11 games.

Lineup slide sparks slump-busting game for David DeJesus
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:51 am ET) Rays outfielder David DeJesus responded well Tuesday to a drop to the seventh spot in the batting order.

The move was made to snap him out of a hitless streak that had reached 24 at-bats. Considered him snapped. He had three hits and three RBI in the defeat of Baltimore to raise his batting average to .174.

Adam Wainwright expects to make next start
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:50 am ET) Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said starting pitcher Adam Wainwright passed strength and mobility tests after leaving Tuesday's start against the Mets with a hyperextended right knee, per FOX Sports Midwest.

"He may be sore for a day or two but we'll find out more (Wednesday)," Matheny said.

Wainwright said he expects to make his next scheduled start Sunday against the Pirates.

"At first you get a little scared, but as I started walking off the field I knew I hadn't done anything wrong," Wainwright told reporters. "All is good."

Jose Bautista not getting many pitches to hit
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:29 am ET) Given how pitchers are pitching around Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista, it's amazing he has six home runs and 13 RBI 20 games into the season.

Bautista leads the major leagues in percentage of balls thrown to him at 47 percent, Sportsnet has reported. The early-season slump by cleanup hitter Edwin Encarnacion has contributed to a willingness to pitch around him. Bautista already has 25 walks, which puts him on pace for 200 for the season.

"His discipline has been off the charts because even the strikes he's taken have been marginal pitches, pitchers' pitches," said hitting coach Kevin Seitzer. "He's got to stay right there, take his walks and trust the guys behind him because if he starts expanding just to put balls in play, then he's going to struggle."

Bautista owns a .262/.467/.569 stat line.

Mike Olt to see more playing time at third base
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:24 am ET) Cubs manager Rick Renteria said Tuesday it's time to start playing Mike Olt at third base more often, per The Chicago Sun-Times.

"We’ve talked about gradually getting him into that role," Renteria said. "Do I plan on playing him [Wednesday]? Yes.

"Everything’s very calculated. So I’m going to throw him out there and let him run with it a little bit. We’re still measuring everything; we’re still trying to be kind of guarded, but he’ll be in there (Wednesday) again."

Olt is welcoming the opportunity for more playing time at third base.

"That’d be great," Olt said of getting regular playing time. "I definitely did a lot of work to get myself ready. I definitely feel I’m ready for the task and can build off the last couple games and go from there."
