Diamondbacks release infielder Kevin Frandsen from Triple-A
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:40 pm ET) The Diamondbacks have released infielder Kevin Frandsen from their Triple-A team, according to AZCentral.com.

The veteran infielder was signed to a minor league contract on April 21, and was batting .309 (25 for 81) with two doubles and seven RBI in 26 games for Reno.

Reds 3B Todd Frazier belts home run No. 15 on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:36 pm ET) Reds third baseman Todd Frazier continued his hot hitting in Friday's win over the Nationals. Frazier had two hits in four at-bats, including his 15th home run of the season. The seventh-inning solo shot gave the Reds their final 5-2 score.

Frazier has 13 hits in 38 at-bats over his last 10 games, including three home runs. He has been held hitless just once over that stretch.

Reds 1B Joey Votto smacks solo home run in win on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:32 pm ET) Reds first baseman Joey Votto got the offensive party started on Friday, as the Reds beat the Nationals 5-2. Votto launched a one-out solo home run in the top of the first inning off Stephen Strasburg to give the Reds the early 1-0 advantage.

The home run was his only hit of the game. It was his eighth longball of the season, but his first since April 28. He now sports a .275 batting average on the season.

Nationals RHP Taylor Jordan gives long relief in loss on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:29 pm ET) Coming in relief of the injured Stephen Strasburg, Nationals pitcher Taylor Jordan pitched decently as he picked up the loss in the 5-2 defeat to the Reds on Friday.

Jordan (0-1), who entered the game in the second inning, tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while walking two. He struck out one batter on the evening.

Jordan, who was recalled from Triple-A on Sunday, was making his season debut for the Nationals on Friday. He owns a 2.14 ERA over 42 innings in seven starts for Triple-A Syracuse this season.

Reds closer Aroldis Chapman records eighth save on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:24 pm ET) Reds closer Aroldis Chapman nailed down his eighth save of the season, pitching a scoreless ninth inning in the 5-2 win over the Nationals on Friday. Chapman gave up one hit and struck out one.

Chapman has been shaky recently, giving up earned runs in two of his last four outings. But he is still a perfect 8-for-8 in save chances this season.

Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani allows two runs to Nationals on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:22 pm ET) Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani improved is record to 3-4 as he picked up the victory over the Nationals on Friday. The young right-hander tossed six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out one. He threw 53 of his 85 pitches for strikes, as he lowered his ERA to 3.41.

He gave up RBI-singles in the fifth and sixth innings accounting for all the damage against him, as he was able to quiet a dangerous Nationals offense. DeSclafani will make his next start on Thursday in Philadelphia.

Rockies RP John Axford gives up unearned run in Friday's win
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:05 pm ET) Rockies closer John Axford pitched in a non-save situation on Friday, though it was not without a bit of drama.

Axford, who came in with the Rockies up 4-0, allowed an unearned run to score with one out, thanks to an error by left fielder Brandon Barnes. But Axford was able to get the next two batters out to close out the game.

The unearned run ends a seven-game scoreless streak for Axford, who still holds a very fine 0.69 ERA on the season.

Rockies' Ben Paulsen hits late home run in Friday's victory
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:01 pm ET) Rockies slugger Ben Paulsen came off the bench Friday and launched his second home run of the season. The two-run shot in the top of the ninth inning put Colorado up 4-0, as they went on to beat the Phillies 4-1.

Paulsen did not start the game, but he has been quite productive at the plate since being called up on May 19. In the 11 games since being added to the roster, Paulsen is hitting .371 with the two home runs and seven RBI. He's been eating into the playing time of Wilin Rosario at first base with his solid hitting.

Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki belts two solo home runs Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:55 pm ET) Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki had his best game in a long time on Friday, as Colorado defeated the Phillies 4-1. Tulowitzki was a perfect 4 for 4 with two solo home runs, both coming off starter Cole Hamels.

The two home runs doubled his season total to four. Friday was the first time Tulowitzki had at least four hits in a game since he had five on June 5, 2013, and his season batting average was increased to .285.

Phillies SP Cole Hamels delivers quality performance on Friday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:47 pm ET) Phillies starter Cole Hamels wasn't perfect on Friday, but he was still very good in the loss to the Rockies. Hamels went eight brilliant innings, allowing five hits and two runs. Both runs came on a pair of Troy Tulowitzki solo home runs in the first and third innings.

Unfortunately for the Phillies, Hamels was outdueld by Chad Bettis, who came with eight outs of a perfect game. Still, it was an impressive performance by Hamels, who has now pitched at least seven innings in six of his 11 starts this season.

Hamels (5-4) also tied a season-high with nine strikeouts, while walking one on the evening. He lowered his ERA to 2.91 and will take the mound next on Thursday at home against the Reds.
