Nats SS Ian Desmond extends hitting streak to 10 games

(10:40 pm ET) Shortshop Ian Desmond doubled in the Nationals' loss to the Marlins on Friday to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

He's hitting .340 (17 for 50) during the streak.

Rays RP Jose Dominguez optioned after earning first win

(10:40 pm ET) Rays reliever Jose Dominguez pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Drew Smyly on Friday against the Blue Jays to earn his first career win in a 12-3 rout of Toronto.

Unfortunately, he didn't get much time to celebrate, as the Rays optioned him to Triple-A Durham after the victory.

Dominguez walked one and struck out two Friday. He has not allowed a run in 5 2/3 innings.


Red Sox LF Hanley Ramirez leaves game with foot injury

(10:34 pm ET) Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez left Friday's game in the top of the ninth inning due to a foot injury. 

Ramirez was in pain after fouling a ball off his left foot. He was able to finish off the at-bat with a single to center field. However, the Red Sox replaced Ramirez after he reached base with pinch runner Xander Bogaerts.

Ramirez went 2 for 5 with a solo home run before leaving the game. The home run in the fifth inning was his sixth this season. He is batting .274 with 13 RBI through 16 games.


Nationals' Jordan Zimmermann goes 6 1/3 solid innings in no-decision

(10:30 pm ET) Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann gave up two runs on six hits and struck out four in 6 1/3 innings for a no decision against the Marlins on Friday. 

Zimmermann was touched for both runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles from pitcher Matt Latos and second baseman Dee Gordon. 

Zimmermann's next start is set for Wednesday in Atlanta.


Blue Jays activate Michael Saunders from DL, DFA Steve Tolleson

(10:26 pm ET) The Blue Jays activated outfielder Michael Saunders off the disabled list following Friday's game at Tampa Bay. Saunders had been sidelined since injuring his knee early in spring training.

To clear a roster spot, infielder Steve Tolleson was desginated for assignment. Tolleson entered play Friday batting .273 with no home runs and two RBI in six games.


Marlins SP Mat Latos allows two runs in 6 1/3 for no-decision

(10:24 pm ET) Marlins starting pitcher Mat Latos allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings on Friday for a no-decision against the Nationals.

Latos gave up six hits and struck out four in the outing.

After surrendering seven runs in 2/3 of an inning in his first start, Latos has now allowed six runs over his last 15 1/3 innings (3.58 ERA).

Latos contributed an RBI single in the game.

Latos is still winless and will look for his first win on Wednesday against the Mets.


Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey allows eight runs in loss to Rays

(10:19 pm ET) Blue Jays starting pitcher R.A. Dickey had his worst start of the season during a 12-3 loss to the Rays on Friday. The veteran knuckleballer gave up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits and one walk, while striking out zero batters in 4 2/3 innings.

Dickey (0-2) was pitching with a 2-0 lead when the Rays put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. James Loney and Rene Rivera each had a two-run homer.

The Rays then came back in the fifth inning with five more runs. The big hit was an RBI triple by Asdrubal Cabrera.

Dickey had allowed seven runs in 19 1/3 innings in his first three starts. His ERA jumped from 3.26 to 5.25. 

He will make his next scheduled start Wednesday at Boston.


Phillies' Freddy Galvis scores winning run on Braves' passed ball, error

(10:11 pm ET) The Braves allowed a passed ball and committed an error, their fourth of the game, in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday of a scoreless game to allow the Phillies' Freddy Galvis to score the winning run. 

Braves first baseman Freddy Freeman committed the final miscue in the Braves' loss. 

Galvis went 3 for 4 in the victory.


Mariners GM hints at Roenis Elias filling in for injured Iwakuma

(10:07 pm ET) Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik appeared to indicate Friday starting pitcher Roenis Elias will be recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to take the rotation spot of Hisashi Iwakuma, who was slated to start Sunday against the Twins before being placed on the disabled list due to a lat injury.

"I would say the obvious is the obvious," Zduriencik said when asked who will start Sunday, per The Seattle Times.

The 26-year-old Elias is 2-0 with a 8.04 ERA and 1.79 WHIP through three starts for Tacoma. He has struck out 12 and walked seven in 15 2/3 innings.


Phillies' Aaron Harang takes no decision after 8 scoreless innings

(10:05 pm ET) Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Harang shut out the Braves for eight innings on Wednesday, allowing two hits and striking out six but received zero run support and took a no decision. 

One of the two hits allowed was a double to catcher A.J. Pierzynski. 

With the performance, Harang's ERA on the season was lowered to 1.37. 

Harang returns to the mound for his next start Wednesday in St. Louis.
