Juan Francisco drives in four, just misses cycle

(3:58 pm ET) Blue Jays first baseman Juan Francisco narrowly missed hitting for the cycle in Thursday's 8-0 win over the Red Sox. He hit a two-run homer, a two-run single and a triple, finishing with four RBI and two runs scored.

Francisco only needed a double to complete the cycle. He's batting .242 with 15 homers and 39 RBI in 215 at-bats.


Marcus Stroman toys with no-hit bid

(3:53 pm ET) Blue Jays rookie Marcus Stroman threw six no-hit innings Thursday before Shane Victorino's bloop single leading off the seventh. Stroman went seven scoreless innings in the 8-0 victory, striking out seven and walking two and allowing no other hits.

Stroman (6-2) improved to 5-1 with a 1.54 ERA in seven home starts and lowered his overall ERA to 3.21. He's allowed no runs over his last two starts covering 14 innings. Stroman will face the Red Sox again on Tuesday at Fenway.


Report: Chris Taylor getting called up

Scooter Gennett out again Thursday

(3:22 pm ET) Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett was held out of the starting lineup Thursday vs. N.Y. Mets for the second straight day because of a quadriceps injury. Manager Ron Roenicke said Wednesday that Gennett would probably be sidelined for a few days.

Edwin Encarnacion, Adam Lind might skip rehab assignments

(3:20 pm ET) The Blue Jays are considering activating first baseman Edwin Encarnacion (quad) and designated hitter Adam Lind (foot) as early as Monday without the players first going on minor-league rehab assignments, reports MLB.com. "If we need 'em, we need 'em," manager John Gibbons said.

The report said no decision has been made. It's possible both players will go on rehab assignments this weekend. Encarnacion and Lind continue to work out and hit at the team's facility in Dunedin, Fla.


Henderson Alvarez takes the hill Thursday

(3:17 pm ET) As expected, Marlins starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez was cleared to start Thursday against Atlanta after leaving his previous start due to a shin injury. Alvarez is 4-2 with a 1.85 ERA in his last 11 starts.
