Joakim Soria earns seventh save of year for Tigers

(5:14 pm ET) Tigers closer Joakim Soria gave up a home run but still managed to earn his seventh save of the season. 

Soria entered in the ninth, with the Tigers holding an 8-5 lead. He gave up a leadoff homer to David Murphy but retired the side without any further damage. 

The home run allowed was Soria's first since July 29 of last season. He has a 2.08 ERA this year. 


Yankees going with Chase Whitley on Tuesday

(5:13 pm ET) Yankees manager Joe Girardi said pitcher Chase Whitley start this Tuesday against the Rays, according to the Wall Street Journal

Whitley will make a spot start on the day Masahiro Tanaka was initially projected to go. Tanaka will receive an extra day of rest and start Wednesday instead. 


Phillies' Jerome Williams earns second win Sunday vs. Braves

(5:13 pm ET) Phillies pitcher Jerome Williams picked up a win Sunday, giving up three earned runs on eight hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings while striking out two in his team's 5-4 victory over the Braves.

Williams was knocked around a bit in the top of the first inning, as the Braves were able to plate two runs on a bases-loaded single by Jace Peterson, but he was largely able to keep them off the scoreboard from that point on. He has delivered a 3.80 ERA and 15:5 K:BB ratio in 23 2/3 innings across four starts. Williams is slated to face the Marlins in Miami Friday.


Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco throws five innings in rehab start

(5:12 pm ET) Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco was able to throw five innings with 66 pitches in his rehab start for Class-A Cedar Rapids Sunday, according to the team.

Nolasco, who is currently on the 15-day DL with an elbow injury, said he felt good after the outing. Nolasco has appeared in just one game this season for Minnesota, posting an 0-1 record with four walks and two strikeouts in three innings of work. 


Red Sox P Wade Miley ripped in Sunday's start in Baltimore

(5:11 pm ET) Red Sox starter Wade Miley (1-2) was tagged for seven runs (six earned) on five hits in 2 1/3 innings on Sunday in his loss to the Orioles.

Miley allowed a run in the second inning and then six more in the third before being removed with two outs.

The big blow in the third inning was a two-run double from first baseman Chris Davis.

Miley will try to get back on track in his next start that's set for Saturday against the Yankees.

J.R. Murphy replaces Brian McCann in Yankees' lineup

(5:09 pm ET) Catcher Brian McCann is not in the Yankees' starting lineup for Sunday night. Instead, J.R. Murphy gets his fifth start of the year behind the plate. Murphy will hit seventh in the lineup. 

Orioles starter Bud Norris rebounds for win on Sunday

(5:09 pm ET) Orioles starting pitcher Bud Norris (1-2) allowed three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings on Sunday against the Red Sox to earn his first win of the season. 

Norris held the Red Sox scoreless through the game's first six innings before surrendering a three-run homer to third baseman Pablo Sandoval in the seventh. 

Norris rebounded from his previous outing where he allowed nine runs in just 2 2/3 innings. 

Norris' next start is scheduled for Saturday against the Rays.


Braves' Trevor Cahill gives up four runs in loss vs. Phillies

(5:07 pm ET) Braves pitcher Trevor Cahill took the loss Sunday, giving up four earned runs on five hits and three walks in six innings while striking out two in his team's 5-4 defeat against the Phillies.

Cahill (0-3) put himself in an early hole, serving up a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to fall behind 3-2. The Braves were able to tie the game in the third inning, but the starter surrendered an RBI triple, putting his team behind for good.

Cahill has posted an 8.03 ERA and 5:7 K:BB ratio in 12 1/3 innings over three starts. His next start is scheduled for Friday against the Reds at home.


Didi Gregorius out of Yankees lineup on Sunday

(5:07 pm ET) Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius is not in the team's lineup for Sunday night's game. 

Stephen Drew will move over from second to start at shortstop for the fourth time this year. Gregorio Petit plays second, batting ninth. 


Jacoby Ellsbury not in Yankees' lineup on Sunday

(5:01 pm ET) Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury is out of the lineup for Sunday' night's game. 

Ellsbury has been bothered by hip tightness, although treatment has helped with the problem. He was due for a day off soon anyway, so manager Joe Girardi gave him Sunday to rest the hip. The team was hopeful that  Ellsbury would be back in the lineup on Monday.
