Michael Bourn expected to increase rehab activity this week
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:09 am ET) Indians outfielder Michael Bourn rode a stationary bike Sunday and is expected to increase his rehab workload over the coming week, MLB.com reports.

"I've kind of on purpose not gone in to push him," manager Terry Francona said. "He's going to obviously add intensity as he continues to feel better. ... He will just continue to ramp up. And when he's ready to play, we'll send him out to play."

Bourn has been out since July 5 while recovering from a strained hamstring.

David Robertson converts shaky save Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:06 am ET) Yankees closer David Robertson recorded his 27th save Tuesday despite surrendering two earned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one in the ninth inning of his team's 12-11 win over the Rangers.

Robertson started the inning off with a strikeout, but a single, walk and sacrifice put two runners in scoring position with two outs. After the next batter walked to load the bases, Elvis Andrus delivered a two-run single. Robertson walked the bases loaded again but was able to retire the next batter to finish off the game. He owns a 2.88 ERA and 68:14 K:BB ratio in 40 2/3 innings.

J.P. Arencibia drives in seven runs in huge performance
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:03 am ET) Rangers first baseman J.P. Arencibia had the game of his career Tuesday, going 4 for 5 with with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI in his team's 12-11 loss to the Yankees.

Arencibia doubled in the second inning and then knocked in two runs with a double in the third. He homered in his next two at-bats, first hitting a solo shot in the fifth before slugging a grand slam in the seventh inning. He wrapped up his night by striking out to lead off the ninth. Arencibia owns a .183/.223/.404 line after Tuesday's out-of-nowhere explosion, and he has six home runs and 22 RBI in 104 at-bats.

Brandon McCarthy surrenders four runs in win vs. Rangers
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:03 am ET) Yankees pitcher Brandon McCarthy picked up a win Tuesday after allowing four earned runs on nine hits and one walk in six innings and striking out three in his team's 12-11 victory over the Rangers.

McCarthy (6-10) has won three straight starts, but Tuesday's outing was his ugliest performance since joining the Yankees in early July. He owns a 4.56 ERA and 113:24 K:BB ratio in 134 1/3 innings. McCarthy is scheduled to face the Tigers Monday.

Nick Martinez rocked in loss vs. Yankees Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:02 am ET) Rangers pitcher Nick Martinez took a loss Tuesday after giving up six earned runs on six hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings and striking out two in his team's 12-11 defeat against the Yankees.

Martinez (1-7) gave up a first-inning solo home run but held a 4-1 lead after five innings. The Yankees offense caught fire in the sixth, scoring seven runs before the inning was up and tacking on a few more in the seventh. Martinez owns a 5.08 ERA and 34:35 K:BB ratio in 78 innings. He's scheduled to face the White Sox Monday.

Matt Albers to resume throwing Friday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:01 am ET) Astros pitcher Matt Albers is scheduled to throw off a mound Friday, MLB.com reports. He has been on the disabled list since April 22 with shoulder tendinitis.

"I've been feeling pretty good," Albers said. "I think I felt pretty good a couple of times and then when I got off the mound, I had a setback. Hopefully, this time we're making sure I stretch it out and get some extra throwing in before I get back off the mound, but it's feeling pretty good right now."

Albers added that he expects to throw at 70-75 percent intensity Friday in order not to push himself too hard as he attempts to return from a lengthy injury.

Report: Royals inquire about John Lackey
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/29/2014) The Royals have inquired about Red Sox pitcher John Lackey, the Kansas City Star reports.

The Red Sox are looking for "a sizable return" in exchange for Lackey, who owns a 3.60 ERA and 116:32 K:BB ratio in 137 1/3 innings. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Red Sox rotation have a few new faces over the next few days, as Jon Lester is also drawing trade interest from around the league.

Report: Six teams in mix for Jon Lester
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/29/2014) The Cardinals, Dodgers, Pirates, Blue Jays, Orioles and Athletics are all still in the mix to acquire Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester, ESPNBoston.com reports. FOXSports.com reported earlier Tuesday that the Cardinals, Dodgers and Pirates were all still involved.

Lester was scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday as the Red Sox continue to pursue a trade. He may not bring back as much as the team would hope, since he's just months away from becoming a free agent. On the other hand, competition between multiple teams for a single player could mean a favorable deal rises to the top for the Red Sox. Lester owns a 2.52 ERA and 149:32 K:BB ratio in 143 innings.

Sean Doolittle secures 16th save Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/29/2014) Athletics closer Sean Doolittle recorded his 16th save Tuesday, striking out one in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off his team's 7-4 win over the Astros.

Doolittle may have uncharacteristically issued two walks in his last four outings, but he hasn't given up a hit in six straight appearances. He owns a 2.59 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 69:4 K:BB ratio in 48 2/3 innings.

Evan Scribner records first win Tuesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/29/2014) Athletics pitcher Evan Scribner picked up his first win of the season Tuesday, striking out two in a 1-2-3 eighth inning in his team's 7-4 victory over the Astros.

Scribner (1-0) made quick work of the Astros, needing just nine pitches to get through three batters in the eighth. The A's offense then came through for six runs in the top of the ninth. Scribner owns a 1.69 ERA, 0.56 WHIP and 3:0 K:BB ratio in 5 1/3 innings.
