by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:19 pm ET) The Tigers sent Drew Smyly to the Rays Thursday, as part of their deadline-day acquisition of David Price.

Kurt Suzuki extended by Twins
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:17 pm ET) The Twins have not only kept catcher Kurt Suzuki through the trading deadline, but signed him to a contract extension, per Fox Sports senior baseball writer Ken Rosenthal.

Suzuki has been a surprise this season with a .307/.368/.389 stat line. But he has slumped recently with three hits in his last 17 at-bats and three hitless games in the last five.

Mariners acquire Austin Jackson; Rays get Nick Franklin in three-team deal
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4:15 pm ET) The Mariners butted their way into the David Price sweepstakes and came away with outfielder Austin Jackson from the Tigers, in exchange for infielder Nick Franklin, who was then sent to the Rays.

Jackson is hitting .270/.330/.397 in 370 at-bats for the Tigers, who removed him from Thursday's game just before the trade was announced.

Franklin has struggled in his second major-league season, though he also hasn't had many chances prior to this. He has yet to homer in 52 at-bats, and has just nine in 279 at-bats at Triple-A Tacoma.

Mets hold onto Bartolo Colon, Daniel Murphy for now
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

T.J. McFarland reinstated from bereavement list

David Price heading to Detroit
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3:56 pm ET) The Tigers have landed the big fish in the 2014 trade market in Rays stud left-hander David Price, as reported by multiple media outlets. Tampa Bay has apparently unloaded Price despite having vaulted back into the American League playoff race.

Price is on one of the most dominating stretches of his career after a mediocre first two months of the season. He has recorded 12 consecutive quality starts to raise his record from 4-4 to 11-8 and lower his ERA from 4.42 to 3.11.

The trade gives Detroit a rotation of Price, Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Anibal Sanchez and Rick Porcello.
