by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:14 am ET) Rangers outfielder Ryan Rua went 4 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored in his team's 12-3 win over the Angels Friday.

Rua initially struggled at the plate upon his promotion in late August, but he's collected six multi-hit performances in his last 11 games, including a 9-for-18 stretch with two doubles and six runs scored in his last four games. He has hit .320/.338/.387 in 75 at-bats.

Jake Marisnick delivering over last 10 days
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:10 am ET) Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick has enjoyed a spike in production over the last 10 days, going 11 for 25 at the plate and stealing four bases in eight games.

Marisnick has boosted his OPS by 58 points during the hot streak, though his only extra-base hit over the stretch was a double in Friday's loss to the Mariners. He has hit .246/.283/.293 with one home run, 13 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 191 at-bats.

Alexi Amarista swats two homers in three-game stretch
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:02 am ET) Padres infielder Alexi Amarista knocked two home runs in a three-game stretch this week to extend his quality play over the last week-plus.

Amarista is batting .400/.406/.667 with two home runs and 10 RBI over his last eight games, and he's 7 for 15 with the pair of home runs in his last four games. His hot streak has improved his line to .246/.293/.325 with five home runs, 37 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 391 at-bats.

Miguel Cabrera dominant in September
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:57 am ET) Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has taken flight in September, hitting .463/.507/.836 with six home runs and 13 RBI in 67 at-bats.

Cabrera has collected multiple hits in nine of his 17 games this month, and he's a whopping 11 for 20 over his last five games, smacking four doubles and one home run during that stretch. With the excellent stretch, Cabrera has boosted his line to .318/.380/.527 with 23 home runs and 104 RBI in 575 at-bats.

Freddie Freeman lacking home-run power in recent weeks
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:50 am ET) Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman has managed just one home run since Aug. 15.

Freeman maintains great overall numbers while playing virtually every inning of every game for the Braves this season, but only five of his 18 home runs have come in the second half. Despite the relative lack of power, he soared in August, hitting .330/.444/.476 in 103 at-bats. Overall, Freeman has hit .290/.387/.469 with 18 home runs and 73 RBI in 576 at-bats.

Logan Morrison excelling on road trip
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:43 am ET) Mariners first baseman Logan Morrison has swung a hot bat during the team's current road trip, going 6 for 14 with two doubles and a home run in four games.

Morrison has been particularly productive in his last 10 games, going 11 for 29 while smacking three home runs and chipping in a stolen base Friday. His recent hot streak has boosted his OPS over .700 for the first time since the All-Star break. Morrison has hit .251/.306/.396 with nine home runs, 33 RBI and five stolen bases in 303 at-bats.

Welington Castillo out of lineup Saturday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:09 am ET) Cubs catcher Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

Castillo left Friday's game in the first inning with a rib injury. He has hit .238/.299/.382 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI in 361 at-bats.

Indians optimistic Jason Kipnis returns this weekend
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(10:04 am ET) Indians manager Terry Francona is optimistic that second baseman Jason Kipnis will return to action this weekend, MLB.com reports.

Kipnis is day-to-day with a hamstring injury after exiting Thursday's game. However, he felt much better by the time he got to the ballpark Friday. "He showed up and actually exhibited pretty good strength," Francona said Friday before the game. "He's sore enough where we're not going to play him today. We would see about tomorrow, but I think we're more in that range, as opposed to four or five days. I think when you say 'day to day,' we really are legitimately day to day."

Mike Zunino knocks 21st home run Friday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:58 am ET) Mariners catcher Mike Zunino went 2 for 5 with a three-run home run in his team's 10-5 win over the Astros Friday.

Zunino broke a 1-1 tie with his fourth-inning blast, putting his team up for good and earning a critical win as the Mariners chase a potential Wild Card berth. Despite displaying quality power numbers this season, Zunino has struggled to consistently deliver hits. He owns a .199/.256/.409 line with 21 home runs and 57 RBI in 413 at-bats.

Alex Avila still out of lineup Saturday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(9:55 am ET) Tigers catcher Alex Avila remains out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.

Avila reportedly felt "disoriented" after taking some swings in the batting cages recently, and his post-concussion symptoms may end up keeping him sidelined for the rest of the regular season. The Tigers are concerned about the catcher, ESPN reports.
