Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa lights-out in stifling Pirates
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:51 pm ET) Beating the Pirates in Pittsburgh these days is no small feat. Shutting them out, even over six innings, is quite an achievement.

Yet that's what Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa did Sunday. He blanked one of the beasts of baseball on four hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

De La Rosa retired eight in a row and 12 of 13 at one point in raising his record to 8-6 and lowering his ERA to 4.40.

It marked his first win since Aug. 1 and second over the last eight weeks.

Mets RP Jeurys Familia finishes it off for 35th save
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(4:46 pm ET) It wasn't smooth sailing for Mets closer Jeurys Familia on Sunday, but he did enough to pick up his 35th save of the season to preserve a win over the Red Sox.

Familia allowed two hits in the ninth inning of a one-run game, but struck out two hitters as well to close out the game. His ERA is now down to 1.67 and his ranks fourth in the NL in saves.

Boston SP Wade Miley picks up no-decision Sunday
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(4:40 pm ET) Boston starter Wade Miley had a chance to help the Red Sox sweep the Mets, but couldn't hold a lead in an eventual no-decision Sunday.

Miley went six innings, giving up nine hits and four runs. He walked only one batter while striking out six, but squandered a 2-1 lead in the six by allowing three runs.

Miley (10-10) finished August 2-1 with three no-decisions. His ERA this season is 4.57.

Rays closer Brad Boxberger easily nails down 32nd save
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:38 pm ET) Rays closer Brad Boxberger arrived in the ninth Sunday with a one-run lead against tough Kansas City.

No muss, no fuss.

Boxberger retired the Royals in order to notch his 32nd save. It marked his second straight hitless appearance after having allowed at least one run in each of his previous three while giving up six hits during that stretch.

Mets SP Noah Syndergaard shaky in no-decision
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(4:33 pm ET) Mets starter Noah Syndergaard didn't have his best stuff Sunday, but the rest of his teammates were able to get him a no-decision after rallying for a victory.

Syndergaard gave up six hits and four runs during his 6 2/3 innings of work, including a big home run to Boston slugger David Ortiz. He struck out just three batters and departed throwing 111 pitches.

Syndergaard finished the month 3-1 with two no-decisions, although he ERA rose from 2.66 to 3.31 over that time frame.

Royals SP Danny Duffy goes only five in no-decision Sunday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:32 pm ET) Tossing 99 pitches in a five-and-out is not often going to result in a victory. It didn't Sunday at Tampa Bay for Royals starter Danny Duffy.

Duffy had to settle for a no-decision when he surrendered two runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

An RBI single by Joey Butler in the first and solo blast by Brandon Guyer in the third put both runs on the board.

A high pitch count has prevented Duffy from racking up more than one quality start in his last five outings. His ERA rests at a respectable 4.11.

Indians OF Abraham Almonte cracks grand slam in romp
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(4:27 pm ET) Indians center fielder Abraham Almonte had a big day at the plate in his teams victory over the Angels, driving in four runs to fuel the 9-2 romp.

Almonte was 2-for-4 at the dish, with his fifth-inning grand slam breaking the game open. Almonte's third homer of the season gave him 14 RBIs.

Angels starter Jered Weaver hit hard again
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(4:22 pm ET) Jered Weaver had another rough start for the Angels, this time giving up eight runs in a loss to the Indians on Sunday.

Weaver has now lost six of his last eight decisions to drop to 6-10 on the season. Sunday, he lasted just six innings, allowing nine hits while walking four and striking out just two.

The eight earned runs are a season high for Weaver, whose ERA rose to 4.94 in the defeat.

Rays SP Nathan Karns saddled with no-decision Sunday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:17 pm ET) One more inning and perhaps Rays starter Nathan Karns would have celebrated his eighth win Sunday. As it was, he could at least celebrate keeping his team in the game long enough for his team to win.

Karns, whose pitch count has been limited a bit, tossed 91 in five innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He walked one and fanned five.

The right-hander struggled only in the third, when four singles, including RBI hits by Ben Zobrist and Matt Cain, tuned a 1-0 lead into a 2-1 deficit. He yielded only one hit the rest of the way.

Due greatly to an inability to go deep into games, Karns has just one quality start over the last six outings.

Blue Jays SP Mark Buehrle rolls Sunday to 14th victory
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4:04 pm ET) Blue Jays veteran starter Mark Buehrle didn't need to be great Sunday against Detroit. His team's torrid offense made sure of that.

But Buehrle was excellent anyway in raising his record to 14-6. He gave up just one earned run on five hits in six innings with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Tigers were held to no RBI hits - only groundouts scored their runs against him.

Buehrle, who already has more wins than in any season since 2008, has won five of his last six decisions.
