Joaquin Benoit could return Friday

(9:01 pm ET) Padres pitcher Joaquin Benoit could return Friday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Benoit was able to get through a bullpen session Thursday, and stressed that he didn't think he would need a trip to the disabled list. He's posted a 1.64 ERA over 49 1/3 innings. 


Dan Otero sent down Thursday

(8:59 pm ET) Athletics pitcher Dan Otero has been optioned to the minors Thursday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle

Otero's stay in the minors should be short, as he's expected back up when rosters expand. He has a 2.28 ERA over 71 innings. Otero was likely sent down in order to make room for Craig Gentry. Gentry is expected back Friday.


Albert Pujols ejected Thursday

(8:56 pm ET) Angels first baseman Albert Pujols was ejected from Thursday's game against the Red Sox.

Pujols was thrown out in the sixth inning. He struck out earlier in the inning, but was thrown out a few batters later. Manager Mike Scioscia left the dugout to argue balls and strikes, and was immediately tossed from the game. Though Pujols remained in the dugout, he was also thrown out. Pujols went 0 for 3, with two strikeouts before he was ejected. It was just the sixth time in his career Pujols was thrown out of a game. 


Blake Parker is the 26th man Thursday

(8:40 pm ET) Cubs pitcher Blake Parker will act as the 26th man Thursday against the Giants.

Parker was added for Game 2 of the team's doubleheader. He'll likely be optioned to the minors following the game. Parker has a 6.57 ERA over 12 1/3 innings in the majors. 


Hector Rondon hangs on for save

(8:38 pm ET) Cubs pitcher Hector Rondon managed to pick up a save Thursday against the Giants.

Rondon entered with his team up by a run. He ran into some trouble during the inning. With one out, Rondon allowed two batters to reach via singles. With the tying run on second, Rondon struck out the next batter and induced a groundout to end the game. It was Rondon's 19th save of the season.


Carlos Sanchez to get the call Friday

(8:31 pm ET) White Sox infielder Carlos Sanchez will be called up Friday, according to MLB.com.

Sanchez will take the place of Gordon Beckham on the roster. Sanchez has hit .293/.349/.412 over 437 at-bats at Triple-A. 


Yoenis Cespedes leaves early due to personal matter

Cespedes left in the top of the fourth inning. He was replaced by Will Middlebrooks. Cespedes struck out in his only at-bat of the game. 


Chris Perez likely to be activated when rosters expand

Perez will likely throw three more times in the minors before making his return. He's posted a 5.03 ERA over 39 1/3 innings. 


Hanley Ramirez looking at Sunday return

(7:34 pm ET) Dodgers infielder Hanley Ramirez is looking at a Sunday return, according to the Los Angeles Times

Ramirez has been sidelined since August 8 due to an oblique injury. Manager Don Mattingly said he expects Ramirez to be good to go Sunday. Ramirez has hit .277/.367/.455 over 354 at-bats. 


Joaquin Benoit believes he'll avoid the disabled list

(7:31 pm ET) Padres reliever Joaquin Benoit believes he'll avoid a stint on the disabled list, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Benoit was able to throw a bullpen session prior to Thursday's game. He said the session went well, and doesn't think he'll need to spend time on the DL. Benoit has a 1.64 ERA over 49 1/3 innings.
