Cardinals 3B Matt Holliday limps off field against Reds
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(8:38 pm ET) Cardinals third baseman Matt Holliday limped off the field after hitting into an inning-ending double play in the first inning on Wednesday against the Reds, per FOX Sports.

Once Holliday got to the Cardinals' dugout he went to the floor and was visibly in pain.

Athletics RP Pat Venditte to throw rehab games Saturday, Sunday
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(8:17 pm ET) Athletics relief pitcher Pat Venditte will throw for Triple-A Nashville on Saturday and Sunday as a part of his recovery from a shoulder injury that landed him on the 15-day disabled list, according to SportsNet California.

Venditte will be re-evaluated after throwing the rehab games.

Report: Mariners move top prospect D.J. Peterson to Triple-A
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(8:13 pm ET) The Mariners have made the decision to promote top prospect D.J. Peterson to Triple-A Tacoma, according to a report from SeattlePI.com.

Peterson, the 12th overall pick in the 2013 draft, didn't light it up at Double-A Jackson, putting up a .223/.290/.346 slash line with seven home runs and 44 RBIs, but started to hit better in the second half, hitting .259 with three homers and 13 RBIs in 29 games.

The Mariners had hoped to fast-track Peterson to the majors, perhaps by the end of this season, but the 23-year-old will have to produce at Triple-A first.

Blue Jays' Jose Bautista able to start as DH on Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(8:09 pm ET) Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista is good to go for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, as he is in the starting lineup. Bautista left Tuesday's games due to a cramp, but he was never overly concerned about the issue.

He is the designated hitter on Wednesday, and it is not yet known when Bautista will return to the field.

Cubs C Miguel Montero (thumb) says he's close to returning
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(8:05 pm ET) Catcher Miguel Montero, who has been on the disabled list since July 17 with a sprained left thumb, will see a specialist on Thursday and travel with the team to Milwaukee in the hopes of playing this weekend, per ESPN.com.

"I can play," Montero said. "It won't be 100 percent until after the season."

Montero's return would give the Cubs some lineup flexibility given that rookie catcher Kyle Schwarber has hit well since being promoted to the majors. Schwarber can play in the outfield, giving Chicago a stronger lineup.

Blue Jays 2B Devon Travis (shoulder) not starting Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(8:05 pm ET) Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis is out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Phillies. Travis left Tuesday's game with a shoulder injury and it is possible that he lands on the disabled list, though nothing has been confirmed yet.

Travis did spend significant time on the DL with a similar shoulder injury earlier this year, so there is some concern there. Ryan Goins is getting the start at the keystone position on Wednesday.

Mets, Brewers discussing possible deal involving Carlos Gomez
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(8:02 pm ET) The Mets are currently involved in talks with the Brewers regarding center fielder Carlos Gomez, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman confirms. Gomez, who was originally drafted and traded by the Mets, would represent an offensive upgrade in center field over the incumbent Juan Lagares.

It is not presently known how serious or far along the talks are, and neither team has commented at this point.

Brewers SP Mike Fiers allows two runs in loss to Giants
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(7:34 pm ET) Brewers starting pitcher Mike Fiers pitched well during his start against the Giants on Wednesday, but his team didn't produce the amount of run support for him to pick up a victory.

Fiers gave up two runs on four hits in six solid innings. He struck out five batters and allowed only one walk. Fiers was tossing a great game before the seventh inning, when he didn't record an out and gave up two runs before being pulled.

Fiers dropped to 5-9 with the loss. He now has a 3.89 ERA with 121 strikeouts and 43 walks in 118 innings this season.

White Sox recall INF Leury Garcia on Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7:29 pm ET) The White Sox have recalled infielder Leury Garcia on Wednesday. Garcia recorded a hit off the bench last week, his only plate-appearance of the season. He has spent the majority of the season Triple-A Charlotte, where he owns a .296 batting average and 28 stolen bases in 75 games.

Garcia takes the roster spot of Emilio Bonifacio, who was placed on the disabled list with an oblique strain.

White Sox place INF Emilio Bonifacio on DL with oblique strain
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7:24 pm ET) White Sox infielder Emilio Bonifacio was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday. Bonifacio, who exited Tuesday's game early, is dealing with a strained left oblique muscle, according to the Daily Herald

Bonifacio has been a disappointment in his first season with the White Sox, batting .169 through his first 77 at-bats in 2015.

Infielder Leurys Garcia was recalled from Triple-A to replace Bonifacio on the active roster.
