by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(5:49 pm ET) White Sox starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija pitched as well as anyone could on Saturday against the Orioles and still didn't come away with a win.

Samardzija -- who held a no-hitter through 5 2/3 innings -- allowed just one earned run on three hits in 7 2/3 innings of work. He also tied a season-high with nine strikeouts.

Samardzija lowered his ERA to 4.33 with the impressive performance.

Rockies RF Carlos Gonzalez not starting on Saturday

(5:47 pm ET) Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks. Gonzalez had started each of the last eight games for Colorado, going 8 for 33 over that stretch.

It appears as this is simply a day of rest for Gonzalez, as an injury has not been reported.

Cubs C David Ross placed on 7-day DL; Taylor Teagarden recalled
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5:41 pm ET) The Cubs have placed catcher David Ross on the 7-day disabled list due to a mild concussion. The move is retroactive to Thursday. Ross left Wednesday's game in the seventh inning, though no injury was reported at the time.

Still, Ross will take the minimum seven days to recover from the concussion. Taylor Teagarden was recalled from Triple-A to be the backup catcher in Ross' absence.

J.D. Martinez homers again for Tigers
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Martinez has homered in six of the last nine games and has nine home runs in his last 11.

by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer

Cubs recall Clayton Richard to start on Saturday; Roach optioned
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5:36 pm ET) New Cubs left-hander Clayton Richard has officially been recalled from Triple-A Iowa in order to start Saturday's game against the Marlins. Richard was acquired from the Pirates on Friday in exachange for cash.

Dan Robertson replaces Matt Joyce in left for Angels
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(5:33 pm ET) Angels left fielder Matt Joyce isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Texas.

Joyce had started the last three and four of the last five. He has a team-high 47 starts in left this year.

In his place, Dan Robertson will get his sixth start of the season.

Rangers' Matt Harrison off DL on Saturday; will start Wednesday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5:30 pm ET) Rangers left-hander Matt Harrison has been reinstated from the disabled list on Saturday. Harrison is set to make his season debut and start on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Harrison hasn't thrown a big-league pitch since May of 2014, as he has been recovering from back injury that cost him most of last season.

Yovani Gallardo will pitch on Tuesday to open the series against the D-Backs, with Harrison going on Wednesday. Then, the Rangers are expected to go with Wandy Rodriguez, Colby Lewis and Gallardo to complete the first-half of the season against the Padres, according to the Dallas Morning News.
