(12:00 am ET) Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen worked his way past a walk and needed only 13 pitches to complete a scoreless ninth inning for the save Thursday night against the Astros in Houston. He has converted 18 of 20 save attempts, with a 2.86 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP over 28 1/3 innings of relief.

Drew Hutchison gets blasted in no-decision

(7/31/2014) Blue Jays pitcher Drew Hutchison was blasted on Thursday against the Astros in Houston, but managed to escape his outing with a no-decision. The right-hander was pulled after three innings and allowed four runs on six hits and no walks while striking out two.

Hutchison has allowed four-plus runs in three of his last four starts. He owns a 4.62 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP over 22 starts (122 2/3 innings). He will make his next start Wednesday at home against Baltimore.

Greg Holland retires the side in order for the save

(7/31/2014) Royals closer Greg Holland struck out one and needed only 14 pitches to retire the side in order in the ninth to close out a 6-3 victory. The right-hander has converted 29 of 31 save attempts, with a 1.77 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP over 40 2/3 innings of relief.

Yordano Ventura gets back on track in win over Twins

(7/31/2014) Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura got back on track with a quality start against the Twins on Thursday, improving to 8-8 on the year. The right-hander permitted two runs -- one earned -- on five hits and three walks while striking out seven over seven innings of a 6-3 victory.

Over his last two starts covering 13 1/3 innings, Ventura has allowed four earned runs. He owns a 3.50 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP over 121 innings. He will make his next start Wednesday at Arizona.

Kevin Correia bounces back in no-decision

(7/31/2014) Twins pitcher Kevin Correia bounced back with a quality start but was unable to factor into the decision Thursday against the Royals in Kansas City. The right-hander permitted two runs -- one earned -- on five hits and no walks while striking out four over six innings of a 6-3 defeat.

Correia has won only once since July 21. He owns a 4.89 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP over 22 starts (123 1/3 innings). He will look to get back in the win column Wednesday at home against San Diego.

James Paxton named starter for Saturday

Marlins shuffle roster following loss to Reds

(7/31/2014) The Marlins announced several roster moves following Thursday's loss to Cincinnati. The team optioned Dan Jennings and Ed Lucas down to Triple-A New Orleans. The team will promote Jarred Cosart and Kike Hernandez. Cosart will make his season debut Friday night against the Reds.

Eric Hosmer to miss 3-6 weeks with broken hand

(7/31/2014) Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer was forced out of Thursday's game against the Twins after re-aggravating his hand injury. He was sent for X-rays which revealed a stress fracture. He will land on the disabled list and will likely miss approximately 3-6 weeks moving forward, according to FOX Sports Kansas City and the Kansas City Star.


Hosmer first sustained the injury on a hit-by-pitch on July 20. He is hitting .267/.312/.377 with six homers and 46 RBI in 409 at-bats.


Cliff Lee placed on 15-day DL with elbow strain

(7/31/2014) Following Thursday's game, the Phillies placed starting pitcher Cliff Lee on the 15-day disabled list with a left flexor pronator strain, the same injury he suffered earlier in the season, per MLB.com.

Lee exited the game against the Nationals with a team trainer after making a gesture toward his elbow in the bottom of the third inning. He will be further examined on Friday, leaving his status for the remainder of the season up in the air.

Zach McAllister gets hammered in no-decision

(7/31/2014) Indians pitcher Zach McAllister was roughed up by the Mariners and was unable to factor into the decision Thursday night. The right-handed hurler failed to make it out of the fourth inning. He was charged with four runs on eight hits, with no walks or strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of a 6-5 defeat.

Over his last six starts covering 23 innings, McAllister has allowed 25 earned runs. He owns a 5.91 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP over 14 starts (67 innings) this season. He'll try to get back on track Tuesday at home against Cincinnati.
