Jerome Williams handed Friday start in Cleveland

(4:51 pm ET) Jerome Williams is set to start instead of injured Nick Tepesch for the Rangers against the host Indians on Friday night.

Williams will seek to take the momentum gained from his last start and run with it. He yielded just one run in six innings in a defeat of Oakland.


Mark Teixeira back in lineup Tuesday

Teixeira has been out with a lat strain after struggling at the plate. He had three hits in 24 at-bats before going down.

Nick Tepesch scratched from Friday start against Indians

(4:43 pm ET) The Rangers have scratched right-hander Nick Tepesch from his Friday start in Cleveland due to a knee ailment. Tepesch left his last start with the injury on Saturday.

Tepesch has been rocked in recent outings. He has lost his last four decisions with 18 runs and 27 hits allowed in 22 2/3 innings.

Report: Matt Guerrier expected to refuse Triple-A assignment

(4:19 pm ET) Veteran reliever Matt Guerrier has cleared waivers and has been outrighted by the Twins to Triple-A Rochester. He is expected to refuse that assignment and become a free agent, sources have told MLBDailyDish.com.

The 35-year-old Guerrier had slumped after a strong run this season. He allowed five runs on 12 hits in his last seven innings before being designated for assignment.


Jason Lane taken off roster as Everth Cabrera comes off DL

Wil Myers: I'll be taking BP on Saturday

(4:03 pm ET) Rays recovering right fielder Wil Myers has confirmed that he will be taking batting practice Saturday, per the Tampa Bay Times.

Myers has been sidelined since May 30 with a wrist injury. He is not expected to rejoin his team until least mid-August.
