by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11:40 pm ET) Twins pitcher Phil Hughes underwent X-rays on his injured shin, which came back negative, according to MLB.com.

Hughes left Thursday's start against the White Sox after taking an Adam Dunn liner off the leg in the fourth inning. Manager Ron Gardenhire remains hopeful that Hughes will make his next start on Wednesday at Kansas City.

Yankees showing interest in Ian Kennedy
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:24 pm ET) The Yankees have shown interest in Padres pitcher Ian Kennedy, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

Despite the interest, no deal is imminent. The Yankees are said to be interested in acquiring a starting pitcher, so the club naturally has interest in Kennedy. The one-time Yankees prospect has flourished in San Diego this season, posting a 3.66 ERA over 135 1/3 innings.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Hector Noesi picks up back-to-back wins on Thursday
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(11:06 pm ET) White Sox pitcher Hector Noesi turned in a quality start Thursday night against the Twins in Minnesota, improving to 5-7 on the year. The right-hander yielded two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out three over 7 2/3 innings of a 5-2 victory.

Noesi has won back-to-back starts, and has allowed five earned runs over a span of 13 2/3 innings. He owns a 4.99 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP over 101 innings of work this season. His next start will come Wednesday at Detroit.

Matt Garza dazzles over eight innings
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10:58 pm ET) Brewers pitcher Matt Garza turned in an excellent start Thursday against the Mets.

Garza gave up just one run on two hits over eight innings of work. He struck out four and walked one. Garza was fantastic throughout the game, facing the minimum of three batters in five of his eight innings. The only blemish against Garza was a solo home run by Lucas Duda in the seventh inning. Other than that, he gave up a single in the third and walked a batter in the fourth. That was all Garza gave up during the game.

With the win, Garza improved to 7-7 on the year. His next start will come against the Rays.

Dillon Gee knocked around Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10:57 pm ET) Mets pitcher Dillon Gee was knocked around Thursday by the Brewers.

Gee ran into trouble almost immediately, giving up a solo home run to Jonathan Lucroy in the first inning. Things imploded in the second inning. Gee walked the first two hitters before giving up a two-run single to Jean Segura. Both Carlos Gomez and Jonathan Lucroy would add run-scoring singles during the inning, running the score up to 5-0. Gee allowed one more run on a Khris Davis double in the third inning.

Gee allowed six runs on six hits over five innings. He struck out six and walked two during the outing. With the loss Gee dropped to 4-3 on the year. His next start will come against the Phillies.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(10:56 pm ET) Royals pitcher Danny Duffy twirled a gem at home on Thursday against the Indians, but the bullpen was unable to maintain a slim lead, as he was unable to factor into the decision. The left-hander permitted two hits and two walks while striking out seven over seven shutout frames.

Over his last two starts covering 12 2/3 innings, Duffy has allowed only two earned runs. He owns a 2.47 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP over 98 1/3 innings of work. His next start will come Wednesday at home against Minnesota.
