Giants could have interest in Ben Zobrist
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:12 pm ET) The Giants could have interest in trading for Rays infielder Ben Zobrist, MLB.com reports.

The team has also been mentioned as a potential suitor Rays pitcher David Price, but the Giants have had scouts at Tropicana Field even when Price hasn't pitched. The Rays are believed to have scouted the Giants' Double-A affiliate. Zobrist would give the Giants an insurance plan at second base while also providing help in the outfield.

Rays relievers find a way to blow game Wednesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11:04 pm ET) Rays reliever Joel Peralta and Kirby Yates combined to blow the game Wednesday against the Royals.

Peralta was called upon for the save situation, but struggled to record outs. Jarrod Dyson led of the inning with a single, and managed to steal both second and third. Peralta was able to record an out before walking Eric Hosmer.

Peralta was removed for Kirby Yates, who stepped on the mound to face Salvador Perez. Perez smacked a three-run go-ahead home run during the at-bat. Peralta was charged with two of the three runs, while Yates was tagged with the loss.

Alex Cobb can't win despite strong performance
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(10:54 pm ET) Rays pitcher Alex Cobb turned in a strong performance Wednesday against the Royals.

Cobb allowed two runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out seven during the start. Cobb actually ran into some issues early, as he allowed a first inning home run to Eric Hosmer. He settled in for a bit after that before allowing a run on a groundout in the fourth. Cobb then settled in, shutting down the Royals the rest of the way.

The Rays bullpen wound up blowing the lead, giving Cobb a no-decision. It’s unclear when he’ll make his next start due to the All-Star Game.

Yordano Ventura lasts five innings Wednesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

With two outs, he allowed a grand slam to Kevin Kiermaier. He lasted just one more inning before being pulled. Ventura tossed 104 pitches during the start.

Ventura gave up four earned runs on five hits over five innings. He walked four and struck out five during the appearance. The Royals managed to come back and win the game, saddling Ventura with a no-decision. It’s unclear where he’ll slot into the team’s rotation following the All-Star break.
