by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:16 am ET) White Sox catcher Tyler Flowers remained hot Friday night in Minnesota with his second three-hit game in the last five. The difference this time was that one of them was a solo home run, which he blasted in the seventh inning.

Flowers, who also doubled and singled, has 12 hits in his last 23 at-bats in raising his average from .213 to .239. His .344 slugging percentage is at its highest point since June 20.

Carlos Gomez goes deep in loss Friday
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:12 am ET) Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez ended a 10-game homerless streak Friday, in a 3-2 loss to the Mets.

Gomez put together his third-multi-hit game in a row Friday, and went deep for a solo shot with one of those hits. He finished the game 2 for 5 with one RBI and one run scored.

Gomez finished the month of June with a season-low two home runs, and has just a few days  left to best that mark for July. He has two home runs in July and 15 overall for the season, while hitting .307/.371/.512 in 381 at-bats.

Ichiro Suzuki powers Yankees to win with first homer
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:02 am ET) Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki hit his first home run of the season Friday, in a 6-4 win over the Blue Jays.

Ichiro powered the Yankees to the win with his third inning home run, a three-run shot that put the Yankees up for good. He finished the game 1 for 3 with a walk and three RBI in the win.

Suzuki appeared in 88 games before his first home run this season, after hitting seven in 150 games a year ago. He is hitting .279/.331/.327 in 226 at-bats overall.

Carlos Beltran goes deep in win
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:01 am ET) Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran provided some power Friday, in a 6-4 win over the Blue Jays.

Beltran had just one hit in the game, but he mad it count, as he helped spark a rally in third inning. He slugged a solo home run, his 11th of the season, and his lone contribution to the win amid a pair of strikeouts.

Beltran has struggled to get his bat going this season, while also dealing with a variety of injuries. He is hitting .222/.275/.414 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI in 261 at-bats.

Hector Sanchez diagnosed with concussion
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9:38 am ET) Giants catcher Hector Sanchez was diagnosed with a mild concussion Friday, after taking a ball off his mask.

Sanchez took a foul tip off the bat of Adrian Gonzalez in the third inning, and manager Bruce Bochy confirmed the diagnosis after the game. Sanchez will be placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list Saturday, and the team is expected to make a roster move to call up a replacement before that evening's game.

Mark Teixeira likely out through weekend
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(9:34 am ET) Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is hoping to avoid a trip to the disabled list, but manager Joe Girardi told MLB.com Friday he doesn't expect him back this weekend.

Teixeira has not played since last Sunday due to a late injury, and Girardi expects him to end up missing at least a week as a result of the injury. Teixeira is likely out until at least Monday's series opener in Texas.

Zack Greinke records four Ks in one inning, cruises past Giants
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(1:56 am ET) Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke recorded a rare feat while picking up his 12th win of the season Friday night against the Giants in San Francisco. He became the fifth pitcher in franchise history to record four strikeouts in an inning.

Greinke struck out Hector Sanchez swinging and Tim Lincecum looking. He struck out Hunter Pence swinging, but the pitch was low and got past A.J. Ellis, as he reached safely at first. Finally, Greinke struck out Gregor Blanco. The pitch was low and got past Ellis, but the catcher was able to throw Blanco out in time at first base.

Greinke allowed four hits and one walk while striking out 10 in seven shutout frames in an 8-1 victory. Of his 106 pitches, 65 were strikes.

Greinke has recorded double-digit strikeouts four times this season. He owns a 2.74 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP over 21 starts. His next start will come Thursday at home against Atlanta.

Yasiel Puig rips out three triples in win over Giants
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(1:56 am ET) Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig came up with a historical performance at the plate in his first game back from injury against the Giants in San Francisco.

Puig tripled in the first, doubled in the third, tripled in a run in the fifth and tripled again in the sixth. He finished 4 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBI in an 8-1 victory.

Puig’s three triples are the most by a Dodger since Jimmy Sheckard in 1901 for Brooklyn. He also became the first player in team history to record at least two triples and a double in a game since Sandy Amoros in 1956. His 11 total bases were the most by any Dodger without ever hitting a home run.

Puig owns a .315/.402/.543 slash line with 12 homers and 54 RBI in 352 at-bats this season.
