James Loney goes deep Tuesday

(12:40 am ET) Rays first baseman James Loney hit his seventh home run Tuesday against the Tigers.

Loney struck in the first inning. With two men on base, Loney took a 93 mph fastball from Max Scherzer out to right for a three-run shot. Loney would go on to single twice during the contest. He finished 3 for 4, with one run scored and three RBI. 


J.D. Martinez hits 17th home run Tuesday

(12:36 am ET) Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez clubbed his 17th home run Tuesday against the Rays.

Martinez waited until the eighth inning to strike. He led off the inning by taking a 75 mph curveball out to center field for the solo shot. Martinez would also single during the contest. He finished 2 for 5, with one run scored and one RBI. 


Jose Abreu ends homer drought

(12:25 am ET) White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu ended his homer drought Tuesday against the Orioles.

Abreu struck in the first inning. With the bases empty, Abreu took an 84 mph changeup out to left center for the solo shot. The home run snapped a steak of 77 plate appearances without a dinger. Abreu finished 1 for 3, with one run scored and one RBI. 


Oswaldo Arcia continues home run binge

(12:18 am ET) Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia continued his ridiculous home run binge Tuesday against the Indians.

Arcia struck immediately. With two men on in the first inning, Arcia took an 84 mph changeup out to right for the three-run shot. It was his only hit of the game. Arcia would finished 1 for 4, with one run scored and three RBI.


Yan Gomes goes yard Tuesday

Drew Stubbs homers, collects three hits Tuesday

(12:15 am ET) Rockies outfielder Drew Stubbs went 3 for 4 with a walk and a two-run home run in his team's 7-4 victory over the Royals Tuesday.

Stubbs is on a mini hot streak, going 7 for 11 with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI in his last three games. He owns a .300/.343/.508 line with 13 home runs, 38 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 303 at-bats.


Nolan Arenado homers in three-hit night Tuesday

(12:12 am ET) Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado went 3 for 4 with a walk and a solo home run in his team's 7-4 loss to the Royals.

Arenado put his team ahead for the last time in the bottom of the fifth before the Royals scored six runs in the seventh and eighth innings. He's 9 for 16 with three walks and two home runs in his last four games. Arenado owns a .298/.340/.500 line with 13 home runs and 50 RBI in 342 at-bats.


Greg Holland picks up one-out save against Rockies

(12:09 am ET) Royals closer Greg Holland picked up a one-out save against the Rockies Tuesday.

Holland was brought into the game to put out the fire. The Royals entered the ninth up by five runs, but nearly melted down. With two runs already plated, and two men on base, Holland was brought in to finish out the game. He induced a fly out against the only batter he faced to end the threat. It was Holland's 39th save of the season. 


Jhonny Peralta slugs 17th home run Tuesday

(12:08 am ET) Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta went 1 for 4 with a walk and a solo home run in his team's 5-4 win over the Reds Tuesday.

Peralta homered in the bottom of the sixth inning with his team down 4-1, scoring the first of four unanswered runs that ended with a walkoff hit batter. The shortstop has been on fire in August, going 23 for 67 at the plate while swatting three home runs. He owns a .266/.340/.458 line with 17 home runs and 56 RBI in 432 at-bats.


James Shields turns in a strong start Tuesday

(12:06 am ET) Royals pitcher James Shields turned in a strong start Tuesday against the Rockies.

Shields gave up two runs on nine hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked one during the outing. Shields proved to be hittable early on. After giving up two singles to open the game, Shields induced a run-scoring double-play. Nolan Arenado would also single during the frame, but Shields was able to work around it. Arenado would come back to haunt Shields in the fifth, hitting a solo home run to left center. Shields threw 94 pitches during the start.

With the win, Shields improved the 12-6. He’ll take on the Yankees in his next start.
