Yoenis Cespedes will serve as DH vs. Seattle

(1:19 am ET) Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes experienced more hamstring tightness during Saturday's loss to the Mariners, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Cespedes is expected to serve as a designated hitter during Sunday's series finale at Safeco Field.

Cespedes is hitting .249 with 14 homers and 56 RBI in 349 at-bats. The injury is not expected to impact his status in this year's Home Run Derby.

Kenley Jansen picks up first relief win Saturday

(1:15 am ET) Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen (1-3) picked up the win Saturday night against the Padres, his first of the season.

Jansen allowed two hits on no walks while striking out two over a scoreless inning, securing a 1-0 win. He owns a 3.58 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP over 37 2/3 innings of relief.

Kevin Quackenbush surrenders walkoff sacrifice fly

(1:09 am ET) Padres pitcher Kevin Quackenbush took the loss Saturday night against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Quackenbush allowed a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to end the game. He was charged with one run on one hit and two walks while striking one over two-thirds of an inning. He owns a 2.73 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP over 26 1/3 innings of relief.

Hisashi Iwakuma nearly goes the distance in win over A's

(1:05 am ET) Mariners starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma nearly went the distance Saturday against the A's, improving to 8-4 on the season. The right-hander yielded a two-run home run to Brandon Moss in the ninth inning, which prevented a complete game shutout. He permitted two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out eight over 8 2/3 innings of a 6-2 win.

Iwakuma enters the All-Star break with a 2.98 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP over 14 starts (96 2/3 innings). He will look to win his fourth straight decision in his next start after the break, though the Mariners have yet to announce their pitching plans for next week.

Jesse Chavez suffers sixth loss in final start before ASG

(12:59 am ET) Athletics pitcher Jesse Chavez (7-6) fell one out shy of quality start in a loss to the Mariners in Seattle Saturday night. The right-hander yielded three runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out six over 5 2/3 innings of a 6-2 defeat.

Chavez has dropped two of his last three starts heading into the break. He owns a 3.14 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP over 19 starts (114 2/3 innings). His next start will come after the All-Star break, though the A's have yet to announce their upcoming pitching plans.

Ian Kennedy goes eight strong in no-decision

(12:52 am ET) Padres pitcher Ian Kennedy turned in another dominant outing but had to settle for a no-decision Saturday night against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. The right-hander yielded only three hits and four walks while striking out eight over eight scoreless innings of work.

Over his last three starts covering 21 innings, Kennedy has allowed only two earned runs. He enters the All-Star break with a 3.47 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP over 20 starts (124 1/3 innings). His next start will come after the break, though the Padres have yet to announce their pitching plans moving forward.

Paul Maholm twirls a gem despite no-decision

(12:44 am ET) Dodgers pitcher Paul Maholm turned in a gem but was not backed by enough run support in a no-decision Saturday at home against the Padres. The left-hander dominated the Padres, scattering two hits over six scoreless frames. He struck out four and did not issue a walk in 65 pitches, 45 for strikes.

Maholm enters the All-Star break with a 4.69 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP over 63 1/3 innings of work this season. He'll likely head back to the bullpen after the break.

Josh Reddick set to start rehab work in coming days

(12:36 am ET) Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick is tentatively scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment for Class A Stockton or Triple-A Sacramento, on Sunday or Monday, MLB.com reports.

Reddick was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 29 with a strained right knee. He is expected to wear a brace on his injured knee for the rest of the season.


Yasiel Puig gets tossed for arguing balls and strikes

(12:24 am ET) Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was ejected by home plate umpire Saturday night against the Padres for arguing balls and strikes. Puig went 0 for 2 and was tossed in the bottom of the third inning following a strikeout. He owns a .307/.392/.519 with 12 homers and 51 RBI in 339 at-bats. 

Jim Adduci cranks out two singles in first rehab game

(12:13 am ET) Rangers outfielder Jim Adduci began a minor-league rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Frisco.

Adduci played the field for sixth innings and singled in a run in the opening frame. He finished 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI in his first game action. He will play five games before he is re-evaluated again before the team decides to reinstate him from the disabled list.
