Orioles' Ubaldo Jimenez loses for first time since May 16

(10:56 pm ET) Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez took a hard-luck loss on Friday against the White Sox. 

Jimenez snapped a four-start winning streak and lost for the first time since May 16, a span of nine starts.

Jimenez allowed just one run on six hits over seven innings, but the Orioles were shut out by Chicago pitchers. He's allowed just one run over his last 15 innings spanning his last two innings. 


Reds SP Michael Lorenzen can't get passed fourth inning Friday

(10:55 pm ET) Reds rookie starter Michael Lorenzen was not effective in his outing on Friday against the Brewers. Lorenzen needed 90 pitches to get through four innings, in which he allowed three runs on five hits in the 12-1 blowout.

Lorenzen (3-3, 3.58 ERA) gave up a solo home run to Gerardo Parra to kick off the game. After giving up another run in the first, Lorenzen served up another solo home run in the second inning, this time to Aramis Ramirez. 

Friday's performance marks the shortest start for Lorenzen. He came into the evening having allowed four earned runs over his previous three starts.


Braves P Jim Johnson allows 2 hits, still gets save

(10:52 pm ET) Braves reliever Jim Johnson picked up his fifth save of the season in Friday night's 2-1 victory over the Phillies. 

Johnson entered the game in the ninth inning and gave up two hits. However, he did enough to keep the Phillies from scoring despite the jam he got in. Johnson now has a 2.25 ERA for the season. 


Brewers SP Mike Fiers fires seven shutout innings in win on Friday

(10:51 pm ET) Brewers starter Mike Fiers was excellent in his outing against the Reds on Friday. Fiers twirled seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out two. Fiers threw 113 pitches, with 72 going for strikes, as his ERA was lowered to 3.83.

Fiers improved his record to 4-7 in what was his best start of the season so far. Fiers has been on fire lately, allowing three earned runs and 11 hits over 20 innings in his last three starts. 


Braves P Julio Teheran earns sixth win of season

(10:50 pm ET) Braves pitcher Julio Teheran gave up one run — zero earned — in Friday night's 2-1 victory over the Phillies. 

Teheran went seven innings, allowed seven hits, walked three and struck out four. That gives him a total of 14 strikeouts over his past three starts. Teheran is now 6-4 this year with a 4.60 ERA. 


White Sox pitcher John Danks snaps four-game losing streak

(10:50 pm ET) White Sox pitcher John Danks earned the win over Baltimore on Friday, snapping a personal four-game losing streak. 

Danks threw seven shutout innings, his longest scoreless stint since a nine-inning shutout on May 31. He allowed five hits, walked two and struck out five. 

Danks earned his first win since May 31. He was 0-4, 6.85 in June. 


Blue Jays C Dioner Navarro blasts three-run double on Friday

(10:43 pm ET) Blue Jays catcher Dioner Navarro did his best to keep his team in the game on Friday. Navarro came through with a three-run double in the eighth inning to make the score 8-6, but the Tigers would hang on to win by that score. 

The double was Navarro's only hit of the game. Navarro had been hitless in his last 14 at-bats before the the two-bagger on Friday. 


Tigers RP Joakim Soria nails down 18th save on Friday

(10:35 pm ET) Tigers closer Joakim Soria picked up his 18th save of the season, as he worked a scoreless ninth innings on Friday. Soria struck out two batters and worked around a two-out single, successfully preserving the 8-6 win over the Blue Jays.

The right-hander is now 17-for-18 in save chances this year.


Tigers RF J.D. Martinez doubles, drives in a pair on Friday

(10:32 pm ET) Tigers right fielder J.D. Martinez stayed hot at the plate in Friday's 8-6 win over the Blue Jays. Martinez went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI.

Martinez drove in the Tigers' seventh and eighth runs with a double in the fifth inning, and a single two innings later. Martinez has driven in 19 runs over his last 11 games for Detroit.


Tigers DH Victor Martinez gets three hits, scores twice on Friday

(10:27 pm ET) Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez went 3 for 4 in Friday's 8-6 win over the Blue Jays. Martinez singled twice and doubled, and also scored two runs. 

In 13 games since returning from the disabled list, Martinez is batting .321 with 10 runs scored.
