David Robertson picks up 22nd save Wednesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:14 am ET) Yankees closer David Robertson picked up his 22nd save Wednesday against the Indians.

Robertson had to wait some time to get into the game, as both teams went deep into extra innings. After a Jacoby Ellsbury put the Yankees on top, Robertson came in to finish things out in the bottom of the frame. He gave up one hit during the inning, but also managed a strikeout. Robertson lowered his ERA to 2.84 following the appearance.

Chase Whitley earns relief win Wednesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Whitley was called upon to pitch in extra innings. He provided the club with two scoreless innings. Whitley allowed one hit, and struck out three during the appearance. The Yankees managed to score during the next half inning, putting Whitley in line for the win.

Jonathan Papelbon hopes to be traded to contender
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12:06 am ET) Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon indicated Wednesday that he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause to be moved to a contender, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

When asked whether he would want to join a contender or stay with the Phillies, Papelbon responded, "Some guys want to stay on a losing team? That's mind-boggling to me. I think that's a no-brainer." The report also indicated that the Phillies would be likely to cover some of the salary he is owed through the end of next season to facilitate a deal.

Brandon McCarthy earns no decision in first Yankees start
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:01 am ET) Yankees pitcher Brandon McCarthy gave up one earned run in his debut with the club Wednesday.

McCarthy found himself in some trouble early on. After Carlos Santana reached on an error, the Indians managed to drive in three runs. None of those runs were officially charged to McCarthy due to the error. McCarthy settled in after that, posted three straight scoreless innings before allowing another run in the fifth.

McCarthy allowed four runs, one earned, on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings in his team debut. Josh Tomlin also gave up four runs, so McCarthy did not factor into the decision. It’s unclear where McCarthy will slot into the team’s rotation following the All-Star break.

Josh Tomlin does not factor into decision Wednesday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12:01 am ET) Indians pitcher Josh Tomlin had a rough start against the Yankees Wednesday.

Tomlin surrendered four runs on eight hits over seven innings. Things looked solid early on, as Tomlin tossed three scoreless innings to open the game. In the fourth inning, Mark Teixeira managed to break things open with a solo shot. The following inning, Tomlin found himself in trouble. After striking out the leadoff hitter, Tomlin allowed a double and single before Brian McCann hit a sacrifice fly. Teixeira then struck again, hitting a two-run shot, which tied the game.

Tomlin left with the score tied 4-4, and did not factor into the decision. His next start has yet to be determined due to the All-Star break.
