    by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

He plans to play catch Friday and throw a bullpen Saturday. De La Rosa also expects to be ready for his next turn through the rotation.

The left-handed pitcher has been one of the Rockies' best pitchers the last two seasons. He is 30-17 with a 3.81 ERA since 2013.

Mariners trying to gauge playing status of Franklin Gutierrez
    by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:59 am ET) Mariners outfielder Franklin Gutierrez is slated to play consecutive spring games Friday and Saturday as the team gauges where he is at after sitting out last season due to health issues, per MLB.com.

“We need to find out what he’s capable of doing,” manager Lloyd McClendon said. “He actually looks pretty good. He’s moving around pretty good, swinging the bat well. We all know he’s a very talented young man. His biggest problem is just staying on the field and we need to find out if he can do that.”

Royals 2B Omar Infante scratched Friday due to elbow soreness
    by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:53 am ET) Royals second baseman Omar Infante was scratched from Friday's spring game against the Indians due to elbow soreness, per MLB.com. However, he is tentatively penciled in to DH on Saturday against the Reds.

Infante added he is scheduled to have an MRI on his elbow Friday afternoon.

Rangers SP Yu Darvish slated to undergo MRI on Friday
    by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:50 am ET) Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish, who left his spring start Thursday due to right triceps tightness, will undergo an MRI on Friday

Darvish said he was feeling much better Friday morning, but he has yet to meet with the team doctor, per The Dallas Morning News. Rangers assistant general manager Thad Levine said the team wants to be cautious with Darvish.

"Leaving no stone unturned. He's too important to the team," Levine said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Businessman convicted in Puig's smuggling case gets month in prison
    by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:43 am ET) U.S. District Judge Robert Scola announced Friday that Gilberto Suarez has been sentenced to a month in prison for his role in the smuggling of Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig out of Cuba, according to the Associated Press. The South Florida businessman also received five months of house arrest.

Scola gave Suarez less than the one-year maximum partly because his smuggling role was limited to getting Puig to the Mexico-Texas border in 2012.

Suarez was one of the Miami-based financiers of the venture in which Puig was taken by boat from Cuba to Mexico. The financiers were to receive a portion of Puig's contract. He eventually signed a seven-year, $42 million deal with the Dodgers.

Court documents showed Suarez received $2.5 million from Puig's contract. However, Suarez has agreed to forfeit a house, a condominium and a Mercedes-Benz.

Report: Royals RP Tim Collins has ligament damage in elbow
    by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:32 am ET) The MRI on Royals reliever Tim Collins' elbow revealed ligament damage, according to The Kansas City Star. The team is now seeking a second opinion.

Collins missed time in 2014 inflammation around the flexor tendon in his elbow. He made just 22 relief appearances for Kansas City, going 0-3 with a 3.86 ERA. The left-handed hurler is 12-17 with a 3.54 ERA over four MLB seasons.

Mariners ace Felix Hernandez to make spring debut Wednesday
    by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:27 am ET) Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said Friday starting pitcher Felix Hernandez will make his spring debut Wednesday against the Rockies, per MLB.com. Hernandez is not injured, but the Mariners have allowed the veteran ace to work at his own pace to start spring training.

Reds 1B Joey Votto to make spring debut Saturday
    by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(10:18 am ET) Reds first baseman Joey Votto is slated to make his spring debut Saturday against the Royals. He is penciled in to bat second and start at first base.

The Reds have been cautious with Votto early in spring training as he missed 100 games in 2014 due to a left knee injury.

Rockies' Jorge De La Rosa scratched from Saturday's spring start
