Rays SP Chris Archer blanks Orioles over six innings Monday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:46 pm ET) Rays ace Chris Archer fired six scoreless innings, improving to 12-10 on the year with the 6-3 win over the Orioles on Monday. The young right-hander allowed four hits and three walks while striking out six, lowering his ERA to 2.78.

Archer struggled (by his standards) in his last outing, allowing four runs in six innings. But overall, he finishes August 3-2 with a 3.66 ERA in six starts.

Braves pitcher Manny Banuelos to start Tuesday
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(10:39 pm ET) Braves pitcher Manny Banuelos will be activated from the disabled list in order to start Tuesday's game against the Marlins, reports MLB.com.

Banuelos has been out since late July due to bone spurs in his elbow.

Indians RP Cody Allen works four outs, gets 28th save Monday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:36 pm ET) Indians closer Cody Allen recorded four outs to nail down his 28th save of the year, preserving the 4-2 win over the Blue Jays on Monday. Allen allowed three hits and a walk while striking out a pair over 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Allen has now converted six consecutive save opportunities, and hasn't allowed a run in his last six appearances.

Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez to receive MRI on shoulder
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(10:35 pm ET) Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez received a cortisone shot in his right shoulder Monday and will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, reports MASNSports.com.

Gonzalez allowed four runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings in Sunday's start.

David Price gets first loss with Blue Jays despite fine effort Monday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:33 pm ET) Blue Jays starter David Price was strong in his outing against the Indians, but was out-dueled by Danny Salazar in a 4-2 loss Monday night. Price allowed three runs on six hits over seven solid innings. He walked one and struck out nine, in what was ultimately a very fine outing for the veteran left-hander.

Price (13-5, 2.47 ERA) gave up a run in the first inning, and then settled in while his mates got him a 2-1 lead. But he allowed two more runs in the top of the seventh inning, which was enough to earn him the loss.

Price has been everything the Jays could have asked for, and more, since acquiring him at the trade deadline. He has allowed three runs or less in all six of his starts with Toronto, and has pitched fewer than seven innings just once.

Indians SP Danny Salazar goes seven strong in victory over Jays
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:18 pm ET) Indians starter Danny Salazar outdueled David Price, as Salazar led the Indians to a 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays on Monday. The right-hander went seven strong innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out 10, throwing 63 of his 103 pitches for strikes.

Salazar (12-7, 3.27 ERA) allowed a two-run triple to Josh Donaldson in the fifth inning, which gave the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. But the Indians rallied back to re-take the lead in the seventh, any Salazar was given the win.

This was a solid bounceback for Salazar, who had allowed four earned runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings his last time out. In five August starts, Salazar went 3-1 with a 2.53 ERA.

Braves SP Shelby Miller's winless streak up to 19 starts
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:09 pm ET) Braves starter Shelby Miller once again pitched very effectively, but ultimately was left without a win in the 4-0 loss to the Marlins on Monday. Miller went seven strong innings, allowing one run on six hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Miller (5-12, 2.56 ERA) has not won a game in his last 19 starts, despite allowing two runs or fewer in 12 of those outings.

Marlins' Chris Narveson impressive vs. Braves; leaves with blister
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:07 pm ET) Marlins starter Chris Narveson had a fine night on the mound against the Braves on Monday. Making his second start of the year, the left-hander allowed two hits over 5 1/3 scorless innings. He walked two and struck out three, en route to the 4-0 victory.

Narveson, who did not pitch at all in 2014, is now 2-1 with a 5.23 ERA in eight appearances with the Marlins. His outing on Monday came to an end prematurely, as he developed a blister which caused him to exit the game with 90 pitches in the sixth inning.

This start went much better for Narveson than his previous one. His last time out, he yielded seven runs on eight hits in just 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Pirates.

Mets RF Curtis Granderson belts two-run home run in win Monday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:49 pm ET) Mets right fielder Curtis Granderson was the difference-maker in Monday's 3-1 win over the Phillies. Granderson crushed a two-run home run in the fifth inning, giving the Mets a 3-0 lead at the time.

The homer was Granderson's 23rd of the year. He is now hitting .357 with a home run and six RBI over his last 10 games.

Mets' Michael Conforto slugs solo home run in victory Monday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(9:45 pm ET) Rookie outfielder Michael Conforto provided the spark the Mets needed in their 3-1 win over the Phillies on Monday. With the game scoreless in the fifth inning, Conforto blasted a solo home run to put the Mets out in front.

The one-out blast was Conforto's fourth home run of his young career. Conforto, who went 2 for 2 with a walk on Monday, is now batting .293 this season.
