Braves' Matt Wisler torched for seven runs in blowout Thursday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:18 pm ET) Braves starter Matt Wisler had a rather forgettable outing against the Nationals on Thursday. The rookie right-hander lasted just 1 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and three walks. Wisler needed 48 pitches (27 strikes) to record his five outs, en route to the 15-1 blowout loss.

Wisler (5-6, 5.97 ERA) has really struggled since the calendar turned to August. Over his last seven starts, he has allowed 32 earned runs over 31 1/3 innings of work, leading to a gaudy 9.20 ERA. He also owns a 18:20 K:BB ratio over that stretch.

Nationals SP Jordan Zimmermann rides offense to 12th win
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(10:10 pm ET) Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann turned in a solid effort against the Braves on Thursday, and he was backed by an offensive explosion. Zimmermann limited the Braves to just one run on two hits over six innings.

He struck out five and matched a season-high with four walks. He threw 53 of his 87 pitches for strikes in the 15-1 blowout.

Zimmermann (12-8, 3.38 ERA) posted his second consecutive quality start, and the fourth in his last six outings.

Tigers SS Jose Iglesias hit by pitch on finger, taken out of game
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(9:54 pm ET) Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias was removed from the game Thursday in Kansas City after taking a pitch to his right hand as he attempted to bunt in the third inning, per MLB.com, which further reported that he looked to be in a lot of pain.

It was ruled a foul ball, then Andrew Romine replaced him at the plate.

The team has yet to determine the extent of the injury or possible length of time he will be sidelined.

Dodgers' Andre Ethier day-to-day with swollen knee
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(8:27 pm ET) Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's series-opener against the Padres. Ethier fouled a ball off of his knee on Wednesday and is considered day-to-day.

Ethier, whose knee is swollen, is available to pinch hit if necessary on Thursday.

Padres recall RP Frank Garces from Triple-A
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(8:24 pm ET) Right-handed reliver Frank Garces is making his fourth trip to the Padres this season. The Padres recalled Garces from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

In 34 relief appearances for the Padres in 2015, Garces has registered a 4.94 ERA over 31 innings.

Pirates' Corey Hart to miss the rest of 2015
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7:01 pm ET) Pirates first baseman/outfielder Corey Hart will not return in 2015. Hart has been out since the middle of June with shoulder and knee injuries. He had been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis.

But the Pirates recalled Hart from the rehab stint but will not activate him from the 60-day disabled list. Instead, he will head home to Arizona and prepare for the 2016 campaign.

Brought in by the Pirates on a low-risk, one-year deal, Hart had a forgettable 2015 season. He registered just 54 at-bats, collecting 12 hits--including a double and two home runs--in 35 games. The oft-injured slugger hasn't played more than 70 games since 2012 with the Brewers.

Padres C Derek Norris good to go on Thursday vs. Dodgers
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6:54 pm ET) Padres catcher Derek Norris has returned to the starting lineup for Thursday's series-opener with the Dodgers. Norris missed Wednesday's game after he was forced to exit the game on Tuesday with a hyperextended shoulder.

But he has been cleared to return, and he'll be behind the plate while batting seventh on Thursday.

Dodgers summon RP Yimi Garcia from Triple-A
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6:50 pm ET) The Dodgers have recalled reliever Yimi Garcia from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The rookie right-hander spent the first three-plus months with the Dodgers before being sent down to the minors at the beginning of July.

Since then, he's gone back-and-forth between Triple-A and the Major Leagues a couple of times. Overall, he is 3-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 46 appearances--including one start--for the Dodgers in 2015.

Corey Seager making big-league debut for Dodgers on Thursday
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6:40 pm ET) Dodgers top prospect Corey Seager will make his much-anticipated Major League debut on Thursday, as he is in the starting lineup against the Padres. Seager will be at shortstop while batting eighth after being promoted to the Dodgers earlier on Thursday.

Seager is expected to split time between shortstop and third base for the remainder of the 2015 campaign.

Rockies' Tyler Chatwood done for the year, skipper confirms
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(6:06 pm ET) Rockies pitcher Tyler Chatwood began a rehab assignment with Class A Modesto on Wednesday. Chatwood has been out all season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last July. The right-hander pitched two innings, allowing one run on three hits. He walked two and struck out one, throwing 23 of 42 pitches for strikes.

Rockies manager Walt Weiss did say that Chatwood will not pitch for the Rockies in 2015, according to MLB.com. Chatwood hasn't thrown a big-league pitch since the end of April 2014.
