Sizzling Orioles DH Delmon Young batting third Monday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3:12 pm ET) Orioles torrid designated hitter Delmon Young has not only earned at-bats, but he has now earned a promotion in the lineup. He is batting third for the first time this season Monday against the White Sox.

Young has been on a tremendous tear to sweeten his slash line to .368/.400/.424. He is 13-for-29 since April 14 and has six multi-hit performances in his last eight games.

Royals' Alex Rios (hand) to get X-rays Monday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3:12 pm ET) Royals right fielder Alex Rios will have his broken hand X-rayed and examined Monday to determine whether he can begin strength exercises, the Kansas City Star reports.

It's been two weeks since Rios fractured his hand while getting hit by a pitch, and the team will check in on how he's healing before determining the next step. He has hit .321/.345/.464 with one home run, eight RBI and two stolen bases in 28 at-bats.

White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez gets first day off of the year Monday
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3:12 pm ET) White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez will get his first day off of the season Monday against the Orioles, with Conor Gillaspie shifting to short and Gordon Beckham taking over at third, the team announced.

Ramirez is hitting .203 with five doubles and nine RBI in 59 at-bats. Gillaspie has equally struggled, hitting just .205 with four RBI in 44 at-bats. He is hitting .455 in 11 career at-bats against Ubaldo Jimenez, who takes the hill for Baltimore Monday.

The White Sox are currently the underdogs (+135) against Baltimore.

Yankees CF Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) likely to return to lineup on Monday
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(3:11 pm ET) When asked if center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) would return to the lineup on Monday Yankees manager Joe Girardi said "I sure hope so," reports NJ.com.

Ellsbury was pulled from Saturday's game with a hip issue and sat out Sunday's game as well.

Girardi said Ellsbury was available if needed off the bench on Sunday, indicating he feels Ellsbury's healthy to play.

The Yankees begin a three-game series Monday against the Rays.

C Brayan Pena remains in Reds starting lineup
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(3:08 pm ET) Brayan Pena continues to play behind the plate for the Reds as No. 1 catcher Devin Mesoraco deals with a hip impingement that has kept him from starting since April 12. Pena will start for the Reds on Monday against the Brewers and hit eighth.

Most of the Reds have limited experience against Milwaukee starter Jimmy Nelson, but Pena is one of the few with multiple hits against the pitcher, going 2-for-6 against him. Billy Hamilton is the only other Reds starter with more than one hit against Nelson, with a 2-for-5 mark.

Orioles DH/OF Steve Pearce benched again Monday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(3:06 pm ET) Despite somewhat of a break-out-a-slump game against Boston on Sunday, Orioles outfielder/designated hitter Steve Pearce is set to sit Monday against the White Sox. He has started just once since April 21.

Pearce did take advantage that opportunity, however, going 2-for-3 with three RBI in a mauling of Boston.

Tigers RHP Justin Verlander diagnosed again with muscle strain
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:51 pm ET) The second opinion on the injury plaguing Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander is similar to the first - a strained right triceps muscle, MLB Network has reported.

Verlander has yet to pitch this year, but is a possibility to do some throwing on the team's upcoming 10-game road trip. It remains to be seen if the latest diagnosis has an effect on those plans.

Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista: I can DH in Boston
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:37 pm ET) A sore shoulder will keep Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista out of the outfield during the series in Boston. But he doesn't believe it will keep him on the bench.

Bautista feels he can serve as a designated hitter, the Toronto Star is reporting. Bautista has slammed more runs at Fenway Park than in any other major league road venue.

If he does take his turns at the plate, he will try to break a weird slump in which he is slugging home runs and nothing else. He has four hits in his last 32 at-bats and all of them left the yard.

Indians' Lonnie Chisenhall not in lineup Monday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2:33 pm ET) Indians third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.

The Royals are sending lefty Jason Vargas to the mound Monday, so the Indians will start Mike Aviles at third base and bat him second. Designated hitter Ryan Raburn is also in the lineup as usual against lefties, batting fifth.

The Indians are favorites (-145) at home against the Royals Monday.

Mike Napoli out, Daniel Nava in Monday lineup for Red Sox
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(2:30 pm ET) Struggling Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli is set to sit Monday against Toronto. Daniel Nava will play the position instead.

Napoli has been hitting on-and-off lately. He is hitless in four of his last six games, but managed five hits in the other two combined. He still owns a weak slash line of .169/.280/.262 and has just one homer and four RBI all year.

Nava, however, has been worse at the plate in limited duty. He has just one hit in hls last 18 at-bats.
