Manager indicates Emilio Bonifacio likely to be traded

(1:01 pm ET) Rick Renteria has all but confirmed that the Cubs are on the verge of dealing away second baseman Emilio Bonifacio.

"It's obvious there might be some things shaking out," he told MLB.com. "We'll see how it continues to develop during the day."

Bonifacio has piqued interest by peaking at the plate. He has 15 hits in his last eight games.


Red Sox acquire Joe Kelly, Allen Craig

(12:50 pm ET) The Red Sox acquired starting pitcher Joe Kelly and outfielder/first baseman Allen Craig from the Cardinals Thursday in exchange for starting pitcher John Lackey, according to baseball analyst Peter Gammons.

(12:42 pm ET) The Cardinals acquired veteran starting pitcher John Lackey from the Red Sox Thursday. Lackey is 11-7 with a 3.60 ERA in 21 starts, but he is 3-3 with a 5.56 ERA in his last six starts.

Rockies busy with minor moves Wednesday

(12:38 pm ET) The Rockies made several minor moves Wednesday, including the promotion of left-handed pitcher Pedro Hernandez from Triple-A Colorado Springs to make a start against the Cubs.

They have also optioned right-hander Rob Scahill to the same team and designated third baseman Ryan Wheeler for assignment.


Carlos Gonzalez back into action Wednesday

(12:33 pm ET) Rockies ailing right fielder Carlos Gonzalez is back in the lineup for the Thursday game against the host Cubs. He missed the Wednesday clash with an ankle injury sustained at his home Saturday.

Gonzalez hopes he can pick up the production. He hasn't had a multi-hit game since before the All-Star break.


Report: Red Sox close to dealing John Lackey to NL team

(12:28 pm ET) The Red Sox are close to dealing starting pitcher John Lackey to a National League team, according to ESPN. The Cardinals and Dodgers are the teams rumored to be involved in a trade for Lackey.

Though, a source told FOX Sports the Dodgers are not trading for Lackey.


Report: Royals, Braves still in running for Chris Denorfia

(12:23 pm ET) The market for Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia is headed by the Royals and Braves, according to the Tacoma News-Tribune.

The 34-year-old Denorfia has lost significant playing time recently due to a lack of productivity. He has just one home run, 16 RBI and 25 runs scored in 248 at-bats.

(12:23 pm ET) The Padres are expected to move outfielder Chris Denorfia by Thursday's 4 p.m. trade deadline, and the New York Post names the Royals and Braves as the current leaders for his services.  

Denorfia is hitting .242/.293/.319 in 248 at-bats this season. 


Report: Bevy of teams eyeing Alex Rios

(12:16 pm ET) Several teams have expressed an interest in Rangers right fielder Alex Rios, per CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. Among them are the Mariners, Indians, Giants, Royals and Reds.

Rios has experienced a serious power outage this season with four home runs in 394 at-bats. But he still owns a strong stat line of .304/.335/.430. His batting average has been above .300 since May 20 and he has racked up 22 doubles and eight triples.


Blue Jays recalling Chad Jenkins

(12:16 pm ET) The Blue Jays recalled pitcher Chad Jenkins from Triple-A Buffalo Thursday according to SportsNet.CA, though a corresponding move is not yet known.

Jenkins was sent down earlier in the month, after posting a 3.72 ERA in 19 1/3 innings with the Blue Jays.
