Rays option pitcher Kirby Yates to Triple-A

(10:12 pm ET) The Rays optioned pitcher Kirby Yates to Triple-A after Tuesday's loss to the Indians, the team announced.

Yates allowed two runs over 2/3 innings of work in Tuesday's contest. He now has a 6.14 ERA.

(10:11 pm ET) The Rays designated pitcher Ronald Belisario for assignment after Tuesday's loss to the Indians, the team announced.

Belisario had a 7.88 ERA over eight innings of work this season.


Indians' Danny Salazar gets first win since June 6

(10:11 pm ET) Indians starter Danny Salazar earned his first win in 25 days, beating Tampa Bay on Tuesday. 

Salazar was 0-2 with a no decision and a 6.19 ERA since his last win. On Tuesday, however, he righted the ship. 

Salazar went 7 2/3 innings, his longest outing since Sept. 3 of last season. He allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits. 

Salazar walked two, struck out two, and improved to 7-3 on the year. 


Mets P Jonathon Niese has strong seven innings in loss

(10:09 pm ET) Mets pitcher Jonathon Niese lost his eighth game of the season in Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat to the Cubs. 

Niese pitched a fine game as he allowed only four hits while walking four batters and striking out five in seven innings. However, the Mets' hitters didn't do Niese any favors in the run support department. Niese has a 2.70 ERA over his past three games. 

For the season, Niese is now 3-8 with a 3.90 ERA. 


Pirates OF Jose Tabata heads to Triple-A

(10:05 pm ET) Pirates outfielder Jose Tabata cleared waivers Tuesday and is heading to the team's Triple-A affiliate, reports MLBDailyDish.com.

Tabata was designated for assignment last week after hitting .289 with four RBI in 38 at-bats this season.


Cubs P Jason Motte picks up save in win over Mets

(10:03 pm ET) Cubs pitcher Jason Motte recorded his third save of the season in Tuesday night's 1-0 win over the Mets. 

Motte pitched the ninth inning and struck out one batter. He didn't allow a hit or a walk. Motte now has an ERA of 3.03 this season. 


Cubs P Kyle Hendricks blanks Mets through six innings

(10:02 pm ET) Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks did not allow an earned run in Tuesday night's 1-0 win over the Mets. 

Hendricks went six innings, gave up three hits, walked one batter and struck out six. This snapped a two-game slump that saw him give up a total of 10 earned runs. Hendricks now has an ERA of 4.15 this season. 


Pirates 1B Corey Hart goes 1 for 4 in rehab game Tuesday

(9:58 pm ET) Pirates first baseman Corey Hart went 1 for 4 at the plate during a rehab game at Triple-A on Tuesday. Hart also scored a run and had one RBI.

Hart is on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder impingement and has been sidelined since June 21.


Twins SP Ervin Santana impressive in final Triple-A start

(9:41 pm ET) Twins pitcher Ervin Santana proved he's ready to make his season debut after his final outing at Triple-A on Tuesday.

Santana tossed eight scoreless innings while allowing five hits, striking out five and he did not walk a batter over 99 pitches.

Santana is eligible to return from suspension Saturday, but is expected to start Sunday's game at Kansas City, reports the St. Paul Pioneer Press.


Rays' James Loney goes 1 for 4 in rehab game Tuesday

(9:31 pm ET) Rays first baseman James Loney began his rehab assignment at Class A on Tuesday and went 1 for 4 as the designated hitter. He also struck out twice.

Loney has been out since May 24 with a fractured left middle finger.
