Nationals' Drew Storen tentatively scheduled to pitch Wednesday

(1:55 pm ET) Nationals closer Drew Storen is tentatively scheduled to pitch Wednesday against the Marlins, but the club may have to push his appearance back a day or so due to a blister on his right foot. Storen left Monday's game against St. Louis with the issue, and remains day to day.

"We may have to push that a day or so," manager Matt Williams said. "We'll see where we’re at."


Mariners release Chavez; sign Gutierrez, Saunders to Triple-A deals

(1:51 pm ET) The Mariners announced Tuesday outfielder Endy Chavez opted out of his minor-league deal and was released, per MLB.com. 

Outfielder Franklin Gutierrez and pitcher Joe Saunders were also released, but then signed to Triple-A contracts.


Angels option Nick Tropeano to Triple-A Salt Lake

(1:49 pm ET) The Angels optioned pitcher Nick Tropeano to Triple-A Salt Lake Tuesday, the team announced.

Tropeano posted a 4.41 ERA and 6:5 K:BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings this spring in his competition for a spot in the Angels' initial rotation. The move leaves the team with 38 players in major-league camp.


Nationals OF Jayson Werth unsure of next step in rehab

(1:47 pm ET) Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth went 1 for 2 in his first minor-league game swinging. Werth had surgery on his shoulder which has kept him out this spring. He remains unsure of the next step his recovery process, per Comcast SportsNet Washington.

"I felt like it was the first game of spring training," Werth said. "So if I had a month left, I'd be right where I needed to be. But I've got six days, five now. We're gonna do all the work we can and we're going to do everything we can to get there. I just don't know if it'll be enough. Again, that's not my decision anyway."


Carlos Carrasco slated to pitch for Indians on Friday

(1:38 pm ET) Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco is scheduled to pitch on Friday, according to FOX Sports Ohio. Carrasco is out out of town for the birth of his child, and is expected to rejoin the club Tuesday night.

Indians' Nick Swisher will serve as DH vs. Giants

(1:34 pm ET) Indians first baseman Nick Swisher will serve as a designated hitter Wednesday in Scottsdale against the Giants, according to FOX Sports Ohio.

Swisher, who is working back from double-knee surgery, is tentatively scheduled to start the season on the disabled list. He will accompany the team to Houston for the season opener before he returns to Arizona for extended spring training.


Giants INF Joe Panik scratched with ankle issue

(1:28 pm ET) Giants infielder Joe Panik was scratched from Tuesday's spring game against the Rockies with a minor ankle twist, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Panik is hitting .220 in 59 at-bats this spring.

Giants will open the season Monday against the Diamondbacks.


Rangers final spot down to Delino DeShields, Carlos Peguero

(1:19 pm ET) Rangers manager Jeff Banister told reporters that the final roster spot will come down between Delino DeShields and Carlos Peguero, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Tuesday.

DeShields, a Rule 5 draft choice, is hitting .235/.278/.382 with one RBI this spring. He would be sent back to the Astros if he is not on the Rangers' opening day roster.

Peguero is hitting .350/.435/.500 over 40 at-bats in Cactus League.


Twins' Kyle Gibson (illness) scheduled to start Saturday

(1:14 pm ET) Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson is still dealing with flu-like symptoms but remains scheduled to start the team's spring finale Saturday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Gibson was scratched from Monday's start due to the illness but it appears he'll only miss one outing. He has posted a 2.75 ERA in 19 2/3 innings over five spring outings while striking out 17 batters and issuing seven walks.


Shoulder fatigue knocks Eddie Butler out of Rockies' rotation race

(1:08 pm ET) Rockies pitcher Eddie Butler was informed he is out of the race for the fifth starting spot, according to the Denver Post. Butler left Monday's game due to shoulder fatigue, and was shut down two days to recover. He owns a 2.63 ERA with eight strikeouts and three walks in 13 innings pitched this spring.

"It's frustrating," Butler said. "Hopefully I won't be starting all over again, but that's up to them."
