Jayson Werth clubs first August homer
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:20 am ET) Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth homered for the first time in nearly a month and a half Friday, in a 10-3 loss.

Werth, who has been bothered by a shoulder injury, hit a solo home run to left in the fourth inning, with the Nationals already trailing. He ultimately finished the game 2 for 4 with one run scored and one RBI.

Friday's home run was Werth's first since July 13, before the All-Star break. Still, he is hitting .311/.409/.444 overall since the break.

Justin Morneau finally goes deep again Friday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:15 am ET) Summer had barely begun the last time Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau blasted off. But he slammed his first home run in two months in a Friday night loss to Miami.

Morneau went deep with one on in the fourth inning for his 14th of the year. He also singled to give him 12 hits in his last 39 at-bats.

Marcell Ozuna ends rout of Rockies with grand slam
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:10 am ET) Marlins emerging slugger Marcell Ozuna came up in the ninth inning Friday night in Colorado with the bases loaded and unloaded them.

Ozuna blasted one 428 feet to complete the rout. He has not only homered in three straight games, but he also added two singles and scored twice against the Rockies. He has 10 RBI in the last four games to give him 70 on the year and an outside shot at 100 this season.

Martin Prado wins it for Yankees late
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:09 am ET) Yankees infielder Martin Prado played a big part in Friday's 4-3 win over the White Sox.

Prado got the Yankees on the board in the third inning with his two-run home run, and then won it with an RBI single in the ninth. He finished the game 2 for 5 with three RBI and one run scored in the win.

Prado has hit three home runs in 19 games since joining the Yankees, but hasn't done much otherwise. He is hitting just .242/.275/.439 over 66 games with his new club.

Trevor Plouffe through the roof in production Friday night
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(11:04 am ET) Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe began August on a tear and seems to be setting out to end it the same way.

Plouffe pitched in to a two-touchdown pounding of Detroit on Friday in a big way. He singled, doubled and put the cherry on top with a 422-foot blast in the eighth inning. He scored four runs and drove in three to improve his stat line on the year to .245/.312/.407.

Wil Myers hits first homer since return
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(11:02 am ET) Rays outfielder Wil Myers made his first hit upon his return from the disabled list a big one Friday, in an 8-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Appearing in his third game since returning from a wrist injury, Myers slugged his first home run since late May, when he suffered the injury. He finished the game 1 for 3 with one RBI, but added two walks and scored twice in the win.

Myers has been limited to just 56 games due to the injury, and is hitting just .222/.311/.357 overall in 207 at-bats.

Evan Longoria breaks out in blowout win
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:59 am ET) Rays third baseman Evan Longoria snapped out of a slump in a big way Friday, in an 8-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Longoria, who had failed to record multiple hits in his previous six games, brought out with a 3-for-4 performance Friday. He added a double and a home run, driving in three runs and scoring once in the blowout.

Longoria has struggled through the worst season of his career so far, hitting just .254/.327/.397, with 16 home runs and 70 RBI in 128 games.

Oswaldo Arcia maintains power surge in dismantling of Tigers
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:58 am ET) Right fielder Oswaldo Arcia joined in on the fun Friday night for the Twins against Detroit.

Arcia doubled in a run to put his team on the board in the second inning and clobbered a two-run homer in the eighth to all but complete the romp. Arcia has gone deep four times in the last six games and seven times in August to give him 14 on the year.

Matt Adams ends power drought in loss
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(10:54 am ET) Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams provided some rare power Friday, in a 5-4 loss to the Phillies.

Adams homered for the first time since mid-July, as he slugged a solo homer in the third inning to extend an early lead. He finished the game 1 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout as the Cardinals fell.

Adams still ranks third in the National League with a .309 batting average, but he has just 13 home runs in 421 at-bats, compared, to 17 in 296 at-bats a year ago.

Ian Kinsler gets team off to strong start in Friday disaster
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(10:53 am ET) Leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler proved to be one bright spot in a night of darkness for the Tigers on Friday night in Minnesota.

Kinsler began what turned out to be a disaster with a home run and added a single. He has five hits and four runs scored in the last four games combined, but he has lost nine points on his batting average over the last two weeks.
