A.J. Ellis gets start for Dodgers, in place of Yasmani Grandal

(1:30 pm ET) Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal isn't in the starting lineup for Sunday's game. Grandal has started a team-high 56 games behind the plate, including six of the last seven. 

In Grandal's place, A.J. Ellis gets the start at catcher for the 25th time this year. Ellis and Grandal have split the last four starts. 


Mariners give Austin Jackson day off Sunday

(1:27 pm ET) The Mariners held outfielder Austin Jackson out of Sunday's lineup at Oakland, reports MLB Lineups.

Jackson was replaced in center field by James Jones, who will bat first. Over his last 13 games, Jackson is hitting .200 with two doubles and three RBI.

The Mariners are the underdogs (+110) at Oakland on Sunday.


Cardinals recall Tim Cooney to start Tuesday's game

(1:20 pm ET) The Cardinals promoted pitcher Tim Cooney from the minor leagues Sunday, the team announced.

Cooney will start Tuesday's doubleheader game against the Cubs in Chicago. Cooney received two no-decisions in two previous starts this season and he produced a 5.40 ERA.


Mike Bolsinger will make Sunday start for Dodgers

(1:18 pm ET) Dodgers pitcher Mike Bolsinger will be able to make his scheduled start on Sunday. Bolsinger is in the lineup for Sunday's game.

Bolsinger was forced to leave his last start with flu-like symptoms. 


Dodgers place Carlos Frias on DL; recall Daniel Coulombe

(1:16 pm ET) The Dodgers placed pitcher Carlos Frias on the disabled list Sunday, reports TrueBlueLA.com.

Frias has been bothered by a lingering back issue. The move was made retroactive to July 1.

With Frias on the DL, the Dodgers recalled pitcher Daniel Coulombe from Triple-A. Coulombe produced a 8.53 ERA in 6 1/3 innings earlier this season.


Cardinals send Jaime Garcia to DL with groin strain

(1:07 pm ET) The Cardinals placed pitcher Jaime Garcia on the disabled list Sunday, reports Fox Sports Midwest. Garcia recently suffered a mild groin strain and he was questionable for his next start.

With Garcia sidelined, the team will turn to Tim Cooney and Tyler Lyons to start Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs in Chicago, reports the Belleville News-Democrat.


Orioles' Hunter Harvey ready to start throwing program

(1:05 pm ET) Orioles pitching prospect Hunter Harvey will start a throwing program on Sunday, per MLB.com.

Harvey was recovering from a fractured fibula when he suffered a strained flexor muscle in May. He was shut down for six weeks after getting a PRP injection on May 18. 


Yankees' Jacoby Ellsbury returns to rehab assignment on Saturday

(1:01 pm ET) Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury returned to the field on Saturday, continuing a minor league rehab stint at Class A Tampa. 

Ellsbury is on the disabled list with a sprained knee. He started a rehab assignment with Tampa on Tuesday but was shut down with soreness after two games. 

After sitting out Thursday and Friday, Ellsbury returned to the Tampa lineup on Saturday. He led off and played center. Ellsbury went 0 for 3. He's scheduled to play for Tampa again on Sunday.


Yankees' Andrew Miller to start rehab assignment on Monday

(12:55 pm ET) Yankees reliever Andrew Miller will pitch for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday, in what he hopes will be a one-game minor league rehab stint. 

Miller has been on the disabled list since early June with a flexor strain in his left forearm. He'll pitch for Scranton on Monday, and if everything goes well, he could return to the Yankees as soon as Tuesday, per ESPN


Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick not in Sunday's lineup

(12:43 pm ET) Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick was held out of Sunday's lineup against the Mariners, the team announced.

He was replaced in right field by Sam Fuld, who will bat ninth. Reddick is hitting .261 with one home run and eight RBI in his last 13 games.

The A's are favored (-105) over the Mariners on Sunday.
