Santiago Casilla earns seventh save Wednesday

(11:21 pm ET) Giants closer Santiago Casilla locked up his seventh save Wednesday, giving up one earned run on two hits in his team's 3-1 win over the Phillies.

Casilla surrendered a one-out double before giving up an RBI single with two outs, but he retired the following batter to finish off the win. He has successfully converted all seven of his save opportunities in July. Casilla owns a 1.16 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 28:11 K:BB ratio in 38 2/3 innings.


Madison Bumgarner spins eight scoreless innings in win

(11:19 pm ET) Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner picked up a win Wednesday, giving up just five hits in eight scoreless innings and striking out six in his team's 3-1 victory over the Phillies.

Bumgarner (12-7) made it through eight innings without giving up a run, but he was still looking at a no-decision before his team broke the scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the ninth. He owns a 3.19 ERA and 141:34 K:BB ratio in 141 innings. Bumgarner is scheduled to face the Pirates Monday.


Jonathan Papelbon takes loss Wednesday vs. Giants

(11:18 pm ET) Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon was charged with a loss Wednesday, giving up three earned runs on one hit and two walks while striking out two in an inning of work in his team's 3-1 defeat against the Giants.

Papelbon (2-2) came into a scoreless game in the ninth inning. He walked a pair of batters and hit another to load the bases with two outs before Hunter Pence came through with a bases-clearing double. Papelbon has a loss and a blown save in his last two starts, but he still owns a 1.96 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB ratio in 41 1/3 innings.


A.J. Burnett twirls eight scoreless innings vs. Giants

(11:18 pm ET) Phillies pitcher A.J. Burnett didn't factor into Wednesday's decision, giving up four hits and four walks in eight scoreless innings while striking out six in his team's 3-1 loss to the Giants.

Burnett turned in his first scoreless outing since the end of April but was matched across the diamond by Madison Bumgarner. He owns a 3.86 ERA and 119:62 K:BB ratio in 144 2/3 innings. Burnett is scheduled to square off against the Mets in New York Monday.


Hanley Ramirez yet to swing a bat

(11:17 pm ET) Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez has yet to swing a bat while dealing with a hand injury, the Orange County Register reports.

Manager Don Mattingly said the shortstop is still "feeling it" in his hand when he picks up a bat and moves it around. He was limited to indoor work Wednedsay, MLB.com reports. Mattingly does not expect Ramirez to be placed on the disabled list.


Yu Darvish takes the loss in rain-shortened start

(10:49 pm ET) Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish was saddled with the loss Wednesday against the Yankees.

Darvish allowed two runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out five and did not issue any walks. The only blemish against Darvish came in the third inning. He balked in a run from third, and then allowed a Brett Gardner solo home run. Rain hit in the fifth inning, with Darvish trailing 2-1. The game wound up being called, giving Darvish the loss.

With the loss, Darvish drops to 9-6 on the year. His next start will come against the Yankees. 


David Phelps picks up rain-shortened win

(10:45 pm ET) Yankees pitcher David Phelps picked up a rain-shortened win Wednesday against the Rangers.

Phelps allowed one run on five hits over five innings. He struck out three and did not issue any walks. Aside from the second, Phelps put at least one batter on base each inning. He ran into some trouble in the top of the third, but was able to induce a double-play to end the threat. That double-play did allow the only run to score against Phelps.

With the win, Phelps improved to 5-4 on the year. His next start will come against the Rangers.


Lance Lynn strikes out seven in loss vs. Rays

(10:42 pm ET) Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn took a loss Wednesday, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings and striking out seven in his team's 3-0 defeat against the Rays.

Lynn (11-7) turned in his fourth straight quality start Wednesday, but he was outdueled by the opposition to end his three-game winning streak. He owns a 3.05 ERA and 117:49 K:BB ratio in 127 innings. Lynn is set to take on the Padres Tuesday.


Jake McGee earns ninth save Wednesday

(10:41 pm ET) Rays pitcher Jake McGee picked up his ninth save Wednesday agaisnt the Cardinals.

McGee was exceptional during his one inning of work. He entered the game with a three-run lead, and struck out the side. McGee did not allow a hit or a walk during the appearance. His ERA now sits at 1.40. 


Alex Cobb turns in fantastic start Wednesday

(10:38 pm ET) Rays pitcher Alex Cobb turned in a fantastic performance Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Cobb tossed seven scoreless innings, giving up five hits. He did not issue any walks and struck out 10. Cobb threw 104 pitches during the start. Cobb was masterful during the start. He struck out six batters over the first three innings. Cobb had three innings where he faced the minimum three batters. Cobb did run into trouble in the fourth inning, putting two men on, but was able to pitch out of the jam. Other than that, he cruised through the game.

With the win, Cobb improved to 6-6. He’s set to make his next start against the Brewers.
